Correct. Once the splined bolts are removed and the CV joint released from the gearbox cup you can withdraw the driveshaft from the hub

For sufficient access you’ll need to undo the driveshaft at the wheel hub then undo the spline bolts to withdraw the driveshaft from the gearbox. You can then remove the driveshaft cup with a puller and replace the seal

You need to remove the Center bolt inside the driveshaft cup. It cannot be done without removing the driveshaft first.

Yes, you have to take the part where the cables go into off the motor, and grease it all up inside

B&M for a golf mk3 VR6 is what you want. Some places still stock them. They are getting rare now though

Do some continuity testing with a multimeter on Ohms (resistance) and check there are no rogue values between the chassis plug and the window and door lock plugs

I would look into changing the door wiring loom to the body before you do anything further.

The recirc flap motor on these is notorious for failure. It can be cleaned, but it might be easier to replace it. I had this happen on mine - drove me bonkers.
