Both the G60 and the 1.8T will require engine mount changes, but should fit. You'll need to use the gearbox that comes with either engine as the Polo gearbox won't fit.

A cheaper alternative which can provide as much power is a 1.8 or 2.0 16v from a Mk2 Golf or a Passat. Again you'll need to change ...

I'm not sure on the gearbox code of the small block mk1s, but I do know that they're interchangeable with the early polos, so one of those should fit fine.

VVT sounds a bit advanced for what I'm after, like you say - think I'll aim for a 1.6 without it if I can. Do ...

Cool - thanks for the reply ;)

Do both the AVY and ARC engines feature vvt as standard?

Also, looking into the Polo and Lupo GTis where these engines are used, I found there was a 6-speed box on the later Lupo GTis - are these extremely rare and hard to get hold of?
