mk4 golf idle problem

Hi all,

My girlsfriend has a mk4 golf 1.6 8v AKL-engine code.

The car idle's like sh*t. It hunts and goes up and down when it wants and turning the steering and pressing brakes causes it to throw a wobbly.

Took it to my local vw specialist and he scanned it using vagcom and it came up MAF fault ...

Hi, my gearbox went at 50000 miles. The pinion bearing went causing it to whine constantly.

Went in the garage last week for it's six month inspection for the warranty. Sweet as a nut. The guy who did my car said make sure you keep changing the oil every two years with good oil, and it should last ...

Gearbox extened life....

Hi all,
Went to my gearbox center today who changed the box on my gti.

After six months they do a full inspection to check that everything is was it should be.

Spoke to the mechanic afterwards about uprating the gearbox and bearings so they last longer. He said that its mainly the bearings that ...

Weird knocking noise......

Hi all,
I have noticed recently that when I accelerate hard about 4000rpm+ the car will make a weird knocking noise. I can be felt through the steering wheels and pedals.

Sounds and feels like going over loads of small speed bumps on a slip road.

Has anyone else had this problem?

Cheers

Sorry to hear about the gearbox. Take it to glouster road gearboxes and they will put a recon box in.

I bought a genuin clutch from vw which cost about £90. Gave it to them and the apparently the flywheel needed skimming and did the job lot.

I think to supply and fit the new clutch and gearbox ...

I Know exactlt how you are feeling I had this problem on my mk2 golf gti.

What you got to do is tilt the box till the diff cups pass the fly wheel.
Rotate the box as far as possible anti-clockwise.
Lower the engine.

Give it a wiggle and should come off.

2 mins it should take.

Good luck
