Got a leak coming form the top bolt (head seal part) on my mk3 1050 genesis. Took the unit apart yesterday and the o - ring and housing seems in good condition but the groove that the o-ring sits in has a gap of about an inch at the bottom.
Is this supposed to be like this or is the groove ...

Got a mk3 1.05 Genesis and gonna have to do this job myself as Garages will cripple me with labour charges. Just wanna know:-
1.What tools are an absolute must?
2.Haynes manual is so vague , what are the differnet nuts to undo?
3.Can the top mounts be undo without the VW tool?
4.Any step by step ...

Its 1993 unfortunatly so gonna need a new cat. He's quoted me £85 + labour for the cat which is not a bad price. The quote for the cv boot is £55 which is about £10 more than most garages but he's a good mechanic with a reputation for doing very thorough work with good quality parts so I dont ...

Engine flush possible harmful - urban myth yes/no ?
I am gonna get an oil/filter change done at nat tyres (that's all I'll trust em with ). They offer a engine flush for around £8 but I've heard that with old engines this can do more harm than good.
Does anyone know if this is true??
Also do nat tyres / kwik fit drain the oil or just suck it out ...

Well hooked up the battery,put in petrol and started fine. Took it straight to Mot and failed on split cv boot (£50) I cant do , corroded brake hose (£40) I can do but nightmare of nightmare's the dreaded emmissions test.

Just about to try and get my mk3 running after 3 years in the garage. Its in fairly good nick and was running fine when garaged (not prepped unfortuantly). I,ve just bought a new battery so gonna fit that but I heard somewhere that you should crank the engine without spark plugs first.
