Hello, does anyone know where the idle stabilizer control unit/relay can be found on a 1987 1 litre Polo and what does it look like?

The fan does come on, but this is controlled by another sensor in the radiator.

I have a 1987 Polo with an intermittent temperature gauge. Changing the sender unit did not cure the problem. The cluster is made by Moto Meter.
Has anyone had similar problems?
