Re: Dyno Readout Makes Me Sad :(

Ok apparently the dyno man said that the readout was flywheel HP, not wheel HP

So I'm running 150.7 HP 180 lb-ft torque at the flywheel, but running 14.47 seconds 1/4 mile

Dynos measure KW, so ask him for that number and also the SAE (Society of Automotive Engineers) corrected BHP number if he's ...

Re: Steering wheel twitch when changing gear

You'd think so wouldn't you. I just think some mechanics get a case of boneidleitis when it comes to getting the spanners out.

Sorry, I didn't realise this topic had been covered in-depth already, but I just replaced the complete consoles in the end. Life is too short to be faffing around cutting ...

Re: Steering wheel twitch when changing gear

I was wrong! It's not the gearbox mount.

Yes. That is the steering gaiter you can see through the hole where rubber would normally be

The wishbone has about an inch of movement. No wonder the steering pulled hard to the ...

Steering wheel twitch when changing gear

Hi all

The girlfriend's GTI has just developed a nasty twitch in the steering steering when changing gear. Although I haven't jacked it up to confirm, I personally suspect it's a shot gearbox mount, which I believe is a common fault on these cars?

If I hold the car on the parking brake and come on ...

Re: Standard GTI, or is it? LOL!

Will do

I use my Corrado more for road racing but the little Polo does well for what it is 8)

Boost is hitting 1550-1610mbar (8psi), so it's 100% standard

Next time I go to Stealth I'll see what it puts down on the dyno.

Re: Standard GTI, or is it? LOL!

Cool thanks, I'll check VAG-COM later.

Kept up with an Octavia VRS on Saturday too. They're 180ish hp aren't they?

I think ours must be around the 165-170hp mark then, which is good! Mind you, all the MK5 GTIs put out around 220ish hp standard too, so VAG are a bit on the conservative side with ...

Standard GTI, or is it? LOL!

Does anyone know the measuring blocks in VAG-COM for 'requested boost'?

The reason I ask is I suspect our GTI isn't standard. It should be as it's the missus's car and she's not big on speed. We bought it from a main dealer with the understanding it wasn't 'chipped' or modified.

So imagine my ...

Re: K04 Turbo

one guy threw a conrod with the hybrid set up, remember its not HP that throws a conrod it torque and how its delivered. A hybrid set up and a lot of low down torque coming all at once which puts a lot of stress on conrods where as a big turbo set up is much more progressive and have less strain ...

Thanks for the tips.

Oddly enough the bulbs haven't blown since. Oh well, one of those things I guess.

Re: Can Polo GTI really beat the Saxo's

So the question is, are GTI's really slower than the Saxo s**t's???????? :?
  Wash your mouth out with soap! lol
Using maths:
The GTi puts out 150bhp. Assuming it weighs 1164 kg (from google), this gives it a power to weight value of 129bhp/tonne.
The VTR puts out 100 bhp. Assuming ...

Re: Tyre pressures?

Why run the rears with more pressure?

Each to their own, but I think the rear should have less pressure as there is much less weight over the rear wheels. This keeps the ride soft (but then again, my ride is very tight).

Indeed. Track cars tend to run stiffer springs at the back and more air in ...

Re: Expensive bill :-(

I forgot to say the dealer didn't bother to realign the geometry after changing the spring either, and handed the car back to us with it pulling hard to the left and the steering wheel out off centre. Nice.

On top of that, I think they have over tightened the new cambelt as the engine whine is ...

Re: Expensive bill :-(

Hey chaps

Ah... was the belt not due yet then? I just saw "cambelt" on the service pricing board next to "longlife service 2" at the dealer, so assumed the two were done together. Ooops! The dealer didn't say it didn't need doing either, so we were none the wiser! As I say, I never get my cars ...

Expensive bill :-(

The GTI decided to snap it's offside front spring last Friday. Luckily we weren't at motorway speeds because the snapped off coil had a razor sharp edge, which could easily have pierced the tyre and caused a blow out

So we dropped it off to the dealer as it's 50K service was due anyway and ...

Re: Gearbox

<30K miles is not the 'normal' 'service life of 1st/2nd syncro rings, so VW are going to struggle fighting this one. Stick to your guns, get the gearbox replaced or repaired.

And then when it's fixed and out of warranty, dump the crappy VW oil and refill with Redline MT90. Your syncro rings will ...
