Broken Clutch Cable

Just driven my son's MK3 1 litre back from him teaching to drive in it, and I think i was a little too heavy on the clutch pedal.

It seems to have pulled the cable out of the white piece of plastic which clips on the the pedal.

My question is, does the cable go back into the plastic bit, as i can ...
