Ash, should have said car weight is 1045kg, car origionally ran upto the 210bhp class which is 1082kilos after a race with driver and fuel. At the moment with 180hp it could come down to 945kgs. There's the problem, they do the golf but not the polo 1.8t, the golf shafts we have seem longer so hence trying to source Polo 1.8t shafts

the wiper arm is marked up: BONWRATH, the cage i think is a VWR job, cant see any markings and i have no details in the book for it. I saw the J and R site but they don't do the 1.8t shafts, they seem rather rare, trying to find the details on them then see if i can match them somewhere else.
