Re: Polo GTI gearbox question

Hi guys,

Back again with a gearbox question. I spoke to a mate who works for VW and he says he would personally drive the car with the whine in 5th gear until it breaks. What I am wondering is, If i get a recon box fitted from Goldings Gearboxes it costs £495 which I really cannot afford at the ...

Re: Polo GTI gearbox question

thanks again Alex,

I have just called a few different companies. Most say they can rebuild the current box and it would cost around the £750 mark all in. Does this sound correct? I think I may get the clutch done at the same time as the Service history does not show that it has been done and the ...

Re: Polo GTI gearbox question

Cheers Alex,

What will actually need doing with it to get it fixed at this point. I have just spoken to my brother in law who is a machanic and he says he does not think you can get the bearings to replace them and so it will be a new box. Is this correct?

Polo GTI gearbox question

Hi guys,

Recently brought a Polo GTi W reg.

I have just noticed that the 5th gear is making a whirling noise. Is this likely to be a bearing, if so is there anything I can do to prevent further damage or with this mean a new box.

I have looked through the service history and I notice that 3yrs ...

Re: Does the Polo Gti have a trip computer?

not that fussed about MPG but I worked it out after using my first tank that I am doing 42.7mpg. My journey to and from work is very economical as I am cruising just under 60 all the way which is 23miles.

Im just used to being in worse cars but ones that do show MPG, when your next service is etc ...

Does the Polo Gti have a trip computer?

Unless I am being incrediable stupid or blind I cannot see that my Polo Gti has one. Surely nearly all 2000 reg cars have them these days. I like to keep an eye on my MPG.

ISOFIx in Polo Gti

Hi Guys,

This is probably a boring question for most of you young guns, but an important one to me
I notice some adverts for Polo GTi (2000) say that they have ISOFix points. Is this standard on all GTI's or is it on certain yr's or an optional extra. We have a 10month old and need to get a new ...

Hi guys, picking up my 2000 Wreg GTi tomorrow (if all goes well) :D . I wanted to show the wife what we have brought as she was working and could not view the car. I have shown her images of Gti exterior but I cannot find any good ones of the interior. So could anyone post a pic or two of the inside ...

Re: Newby Here Just Saying Hello

Hi emma, thanks for the welcome.

Cant wait to pick it up tomorrow (providing the car is ready).

Will definatly get some pics done asap. Plans will be minimal due to being a family man with a son and a mortgage, so there will not be much money to throw at it. In time the plan would be sorting the ...

Re: Newby Here Just Saying Hello

HI Chris,

yeah the cars have been fun.

I live in a town called Haverhill which is right on the Suffolk, Essex, Cambridge borders.

My 172 mk2 Phase 1. She was mint with only 38k on the clock. Seriously not a mark on her. Now owned by someone on Cliosport.net

Newby Here Just Saying Hello

Hi Guys,

New her and new to the Polo GTI's, in fact new to the German car scene. I have owned many hot hatches in my time, Clio 16v, Williams Clio, 2x106 GTI, Renault 5 GT Turbo and a Clio 172. Notice all have been French and although very fun cars have been poor build quality etc. I then had a ...
