Re: Bought a Polo 03 1.4 fsi, DIY fixer upper or not?

Had a look into it and I believe mine is chain driven (euro parts offer a chain kit and no belt kit which supports that), is there any maintenance of the chain components needed or is it a once it goes it's gone situation? Am going to make up a puller and hoping I can get the console bushes and wis...

Re: Complete loss of electrical power when turning ignition

While the starter motor is connected I would expect to see that sort of voltage drop, if there was little or no voltage drop then the solenoid coil and/or the starter motor would be open circuit or had a wiring issue, early cars ended up with the solenoid coil supply wire fretting/corroding badly an...

Re: Tailgate and Rear wiper issue.

You really do need to get the trim panel off and see what is happening under there, it could just be a water leak causing corrosion on the lock mechanism - or at least in its plug/socket. Or you have two different problems, as above for the lock and maybe even broken wires inside the rubber protecti...

Re: Drone like noise, possible wheel bearing

I can't say but I think that is your best plan, just buying a bearing would mean paying to get it pressed into the hub - and buying an assembly would need it pressing into the hub carrier, these are Gen2 bearings so need handled with the correct tools. Your indie will have worked out which is cheape...

Re: Is the price right ?

Hi, the trouble is, everyone living in UK will think that your price for buying this car is just nuts, but I my older daughter worked in Perth Oz for a year and then KL, and so I know that cars hold onto a lot more of their value than they do in UK. Sorting out a VW Group car in NZ, costly I'd think...

Re: Airbags gone off, steering light on

Sorry, but all I can say is, I've heard about that in the past but I can't remember how/what you do to sort it out, have you tried Googling that, even for Skoda Fabia and SEAT Ibiza as they tend to have more active technical questions asked/answers given.

Re: Front parking sensors

Actually I was getting the car systems page mixed up with the ones that Vagtec do. They do a front and rear kit for £392 plus separate front and separate rear, but annoyingly one of them isn't half the price of the kit that does both! https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=11...

Re: Bought a Polo 03 1.4 fsi, DIY fixer upper or not?

If that engine does have a belt driven camshaft, I'd suggest that you get a new belt and any associated roller/idler/tensioner as doing that will keep it safe for 4 years. Console bush, on my wife's old 2002 1.4 16V Polo with the horrible BBY engine, I replaced the split console bushes with SEAT Ibi...

Re: Front parking sensors

I noticed that Carsystems do sell the cableforms separately and do list the 2 cables as a set.

I'd think that you can trust their VAG part numbers for new front sensors, as usual there will be a couple or so compatible part numbers as some sources will be selling off old stock.

Re: Bought a Polo 04 1.4 fsi, DIY fixer upper or not?

No, I don't have any true tales about being able to leave these belts until they start to look nasty - some people have remarked on "its only the TDI engines that you need to worry about the cambelts on as there is higher loads on the belt, well especially the PDI versions. From what my proper VAG I...

Yes, I can't think why I wrote 60PS is a 12 valve engine - that would make the 70PS having even more valves!

Re: Front parking sensors

Sorry, other things to buy if you do not have them are, car cable tape, contact pin release tool and 2 plastic rivets to secure the new buzzer. I also bought rubber/plastic soft sort of tie wraps to secure the new cable harnesses to existing cable harnesses in places like the front wheel arch under ...

Re: Front parking sensors

Look at my last posting as I've added a link to another supplier, ie Carsystems and they show what they sell as a complete upgrade kit. Sensors, probably find them on ebay ie genuine ones for this car, cables, you would need to see if Carsystems sell the cables by themselves, if not buy from Kufatec...

Re: Front parking sensors

Typically, cars fitted at initial build, with only rear parking sensors will have a 4 channel parking controller fitted, to retrofit front sensors, you would need to replace that with an 8 channel parking controller, front sensor group warning buzzer and some new cable forms, probably 2, one for the...

Re: Weird noise??

It could be a flap motor that has lost its marbles, ie its electrical feedback is messed up and the controller if trying and failing to control it - that will be one of the air direction or blend flap motors. Edit:- of course, it might even have ended up with a jammed flap and the internal drive gea...
