Re: First Car Polo 9N 1.4 16V

I have not seen it on any other cars either,my 1997 306 diesel has an oil level gauge which shows the oil level for a minute after start and then switches off (how easy is that ?). I was lucky with checking the polo engine oil because during my working life the official way of checking oil levels wa...

Re: First Car Polo 9N 1.4 16V

by RUM4MO One thing to understand if you have not had one of these cars with that engine previously, to check the engine oil level, if you just remove the dipstick from a cold engine, maybe from standing overnight or for days or weeks, you will find that the indicated oil level will be way up the di...

Re: Courtesy light

I received my new puddle light from ebay - fitted and worked fine - The other side which was externally undamaged but had never worked !! I removed it and found it had no internals LOL so managed to make a complete unit out of the spare (broken) light parts - result ! The main courtesy light unit ha...

Re: Widscreen washer pump

Ah well - changed the WW pump today and found that the leak was caused by the little elbow for the front washer pipe not locking on properly - also the pipe is not quite long enough to let the elbow lock on square to the pump. But still no water getting to the rear washer pipe (pipe is disconnected a...

Re: Widscreen washer pump

I'd think that it would be a good thing to use a spot of rubber grease on the spigot of that new pump so that you did not harm that now slightly hardened with age seal in the bottle?
That sounds like a very good idea - thanks !

Windscreen washer pump

One of the little jobs to do on my list when the weather warms up a bit is to change the WW pump (works ok for front but not rear) I got access to it through the N/S wheel arch plastic liner, and the outlet from the pump to the rear plastic hose is almost completely broken off (the clue was water dri...

Heater fan speeds up with reverse ?

Our polo has a few electrical idiosyncracies anyway - but also I have noticed that the heater fan seems to speed up when reverse is selected - it then goes back to normal when taken out of reverse !
I am not too worried about it but wondered if it was normal ?
