Re: Airbox engine cover flap valve (engine pinking when hot)

Just to clarify that we only had to remove the (11 ?) normal cross head air filter access screws,no need to touch the torx type screws attaching the air intake 'trumpet/duct' to the front edge of the engine cover.

Re: Airbox engine cover flap valve (engine pinking when hot)

That assembly looks different to my BBY. Sorry LP - yes this pic was taken on the inside of an engine cover of a different engine code - with the air filter cover + filter removed (Fabia 1.2 I think). It is very similar though to the AUB engine cover/air flap design, the only real difference on our ...

Re: Airbox engine cover flap valve (engine pinking when hot)

I contacted Wino (Pete) on briskoda and he supplied details about the Volvo part he used to fix the Air Flap capsule. The capsule part number is Wahler 1266826 But he also said that he would not bother doing it again and the alternative is to push the capsule right 'in' with a screwdriver and then f...

Re: what to do to the polo next

That is the trouble with doing brake jobs - everything has to refit absolutely straight/square and cleanly so that everything slides/operates freely, you will be doing the right thing by getting it checked out by a garage.

Also it would help any suggestions if we know exactly what engine Type/Code your car is.

Re: Idle problems with 2003 1.2 polo

Hi Josh
Have you replaced the Air Filter ?
I am not saying that would cause your problem but a good starting point perhaps.

Re: what to do to the polo next

Did you change both Discs and Pads ? Sometimes new Brakes can feel 'spongey' until they are operated for some miles whilst driving so that the pads can 'bed in' to the discs (the americans used to call it 'Burnishing') - so as long as the brakes are holding and not leaking any fluid etc it might be ...

Re: Diagnosis on my ruined timing belt? 1.4 16v

Any damage/lack of damage will vary with the different engine codes/types,some engine codes will be 'clearance engines' others will not be.

Re: what to do to the polo next

If you have never done Brakes before - do you have any friends who are experienced (and trustworthy/sensible) who could do the job with you and show you the correct/safe and proper procedures to safely replace all the parts ?Any job on a car can go badly wrong very quickly and experience gives you a...

Re: 17559 long term fuel trim

The last couple of times that the EML has lit has been right at the end of a journey (at least 30 miles) and whilst parking the polo,I am not sure if the cold ambient temps are making the problem worse . The car (thus far) has been starting/running ok so happy to live with it through the next month ...

Re: 17559 long term fuel trim

I posted the same question on Briskoda and Wino kindly posted this list... For these engines 17559 is defined as : Bank 1, mixture adaptation range 11) Below leanness limit The suggested lines of enquiry for that code are: – Test injection valves ⇒ Chapter 24-3 – Test fuel pump ⇒ 1.4/55; 1.4/74 Engi...

Re: what to do to the polo next

Sounds like good progress :)
Re Brakes - I know some people do not like Pagid but I have always found them to be fine.
I have used Brembo before as well - really depends on offer prices to me.
Our Polo has excellent Brakes with Discs all round, much better brakes than the Fabia 2 we had for a while LOL

17559 long term fuel trim

This error code crops up occasionally LOL I just keep clearing it,I did change the CTS (genuine VW part) a couple of years ago, which cut down on the reocurrences. I just wondered what else might be the cause. Car starts and runs well,no obvious issues. Just curious as it is too cold up here for seri...

I got a cheapie (model U281) off ebay a few years ago - works fine - easy to use and will erase codes and will extinguish EML lights.
I am sure their are better/more modern ones available.
