Re: Rattles...again

In my wife's August 2015 6C 1.2TSI, it is the "chromed" rings on the dashboard displays that drive me crazy in changing temperatures, I've always meant to try prising them out and applying a spot of silicon grease - but 8 winters on, I've not got round to doing that. Also the driver's side...

Re: 5w40 or 5w 30

I'm sure that 5W-40 was the one to use when these cars were bought in 2002, that was what I always used on a BBY petrol engine, not much difference between 5W-30 and 5W-40 though, in reality.
I always use 5W-30 on newer engines though, ie 2011 3.0TFSI, 2019 2.0TSI and 2015 1.2TSI.

Re: 1.4 TDi Oil level sensor replacement

I can't comment much on the position of the sensor, but I'm sure on the old BBY petrol engine, it was on the side of the alloy sump pan, and as you say, on most newer engines, on the base of the sump pan alloy or steel. The bonnet catch switch, just to clear things up for you, in case you are unsure...

Re: Is this an MOT failure?

Yes, battery fitting security would need to be checked - now that you have mentioned it, and possibly more.

Re: Meyle HD vs Lemforder

So that means that VW Group did make a change in this area from the original 9N Polos/Fabia/Ibiza, I seem to remember this being discussed while the earlier models were current. Using different lengths of lower arms seemed an easy way to keep the camber "okay" for differing standard road s...

Ah, sorry I had kind of forgotten about that even although I knew why you were making this change!

Re: Meyle HD vs Lemforder

As far as I "know" all cars that come built a factory with lowered suspension, like GTI etc, have a slightly shorter lower arm/track control arm, by having that, the camber remains correct with shorter road springs fitted, that is why, for anyone with normal suspension, replacing the front...

Re: Steering rack upgrade from PR-1N2 to PR-1N4

Why not just leave all the wiring as it is and connect that lead into your next steering rack pump - doing that would avoid you needing to safely protect the wiring going to that connector?

Re: Changing the front Subframe 2009 6R 1.6 TDI

That's good news, I was concerned originally just in case you had just bought "any old" Polo/Audi/SEAT/Skoda small car subframe, but I've checked and see that both your car and the 2013 A1 with the 1.6TDI used the same subframe p/n 6R0 199 315 L.

Have fun!

Re: Ignition coil puller comparison

I've not got a problem with using a metal tool with plastic connectors - they work well, including a small or medium flat blade screwdriver, if used sensibly. Trying to do this job with a plastic tool like a spudger might be tricky as there could be no enough space to get it into the most useful pos...

M12 X 1.5 X 75mm 4 – off 70Nm +90 Deg. Edit:- sorry I used the number for the same sized/type bolts for the 6C 1.2TSI, your number is correct and I'd think that the torque will be the same, I've no idea why the bolt number changed for the same size of bolts though! Later:- I checked my Haynes repair...

Re: Ignition coil puller comparison

Having done this job now I still think a pair of cable ties under the coil head then looped over a screwdriver will get the job done. The tool I really want for these is something to remove the electrical connectors without imparting a sense of dread when they make that unnerving "click" ...

Re: Oil fill

The Sealey version is exactly the same as what I bought branded as a Laser Tools item, the one I included a ebay link for is a 2 piece thing and much cheaper, with the option of buying new adaptors for other cars within the VW Group and others.

Re: Changing the front Subframe 2009 6R 1.6 TDI

My wife's August 2015 VW Polo 1.2TSI 110PS 6MT ended up with one of the front subframe bolts snapping its head off maybe before last winter! I found the bolt head on the garage floor, if I had not noticed or found that I'd think that it would still be running around with only 3 out of the 4 subframe...

Re: Ignition coil puller comparison

When the time came for me to replace the spark plugs in my wife's 2002 VW Polo 1.4 16V BBY, there did not seem to be too many "coil removers" aimed at DIYers, so I used common sense and used 2 medium sized flat bladed screwdrivers and bits of wood to act as fulcrums - that worked very - bu...
