Re: Old VW antics
Update. When switching on side position lamps while engine is running/under way, the instrument cluster LEDs dim.

Re: Old VW antics
The latest oddity I've seen in hot weather is front n/s position lamp on with lights switched off and ignition off. When I went for a drive I put on the side lights and then the rear for came on again!

Re: Weird electrical problem
I would get a cheap code reader and check DTCs.

Re: 2003 1.2 Polo not cranking
An immobiliser issue should be flagged with a warning light on the instrument panel and/or a DTC (diagnostic trouble code). You can buy a cheap reader to check for the latter. When the issue occurs, is it attempting to crank/rotate the engine or not?

Re: throttle body software
It will need calibration/re-adaptation. The full version of the s/w will do it. I seem to recall mention of a manual way and you mighty search the threads to see if you can find any info.

I had the same experience during a top end overhaul back in winter 2019. The joint/assy there is quite well protected.

Re: Old VW antics
It does exhibit odd behaviour during hot weather and cold weather. Reversal of the power windows left to right and up to down (everything backwards) durign wet winter weather is the most interesting!

Re: E10 compatibility?
Yes but your mpg and likely performance will decrease. Previously, I used Tesco Momentum or a similar grade fuel to get better mpg and driveability.

Old VW antics
On a warm day (low 20s) where the Polo has been parked up during the day and I drive it after I turn on the sidelights. At the same time, the rear fog lamp warning light illuminates as does the lamp itself. After driving for say 10-15 mins, I try the sidelights again and this time the rear fog lamp ...

Oil update (0W40)
I got a very good deal on some Mannol 0W40 last autumn and thought I would try it out. The oil meets VW spec (502, 505) and also MB and Porsche specs. I saw a definite improvement in starting, running and driveability over the winter months and an increase in mpg. I was surprised to notice the diffe...

Head unit stopped working
I fitted a replacement single DIN head unit (JVC) a few years ago and it stopped working a few months back. I just got around to investigating and could not get it to power up. On removal, I found the heatsink at the rear was very hot, which is surprising since it was not switched on (or at least no...

Re: ATF auto transmission fluid change
Just a quick update. A few weeks ago I dropped about 1.5l of ATF from the lower drain plug. I was more brownish red than reddish brown and with a bit of an odour. I'm wondering if the residual old fluid in the torque converter might have flushed through in the 1700-ish miles covered since my previou...

Re: VW Polo 1.4 BKY engine cranks but won’t start
I was going to suggest a compression test and it looks like you are planning to do that. A good old fashioned vacuum gauge can be useful for diagnostics.
