Re: POLO GTI+ | Police Trouble
The Polo GTI I'd not an insanely expensive car, nor a particularly flash car - very Conservative in its looks. Disagree. It may not be all wings like a Subaru or a Civic Type R, but it's still very overtly sporty. Especially if it's the GTi+ with the LED running lights in the headlights. It attract...

Re: POLO GTI+ | Police Trouble
I don't think it's totally unfair for the police to be somewhat suspicious of a 24 year old male driving a Polo GTi. I'd venture very few can afford the car, or the insurance. You may even look younger than 24, I don't know. No easy answer to this, we want the police to be proactive but we don't wa...

Re: Michelin PS4's
If you can burn through a set of rock hard Bridgestones in 8k miles then you must be driving like a nutter. Most will see 20k miles on the fronts. You also talk about "throwing" the car around. If you're flinging the car around, I think you'd find the car a lot more predictable on 4 tyres...

Re: POLO GTI+ | Police Trouble
There's definitely got to be some kind of flag on your reg number, linked to your speeding conviction. There's plenty of quicker cars out there and the Polo GTI is pretty subtle in looks, unlike sometging like a Subaru Impreza or the current Civic R type. My Golf R in the signature Lapiz Blue attrac...

Re: Heavy water soaked carpets
I'd call the guy back and say "Underlay! Underlay! Arriba! Arriba!"
The fix should definitely be a full restoration to pre-damped conditions, not a "make best of existing parts" situation.

Re: 18" wheel advice
Cheers monkey, yeah I saw the calculator said my Speedo won’t be affected much at all (I’ve got the 205/55 16s as standard) The standard load rating is 91 and I’m pretty sure the 225/40 Dunlops I’m looking at are 92. The Michelin PS4s I bought for the Polo GTI were XL 92, so not a rarity. If you kn...

Re: Polo 68 plate New shape driver side door window not working
Hi STGT, Sorry for the confusion it appear the vehicle is actually a 68 plate. Would this still be covered under the warranty? If the car was registered less than 3 years ago it is still under warranty. If it was registered 1st-10th Sep 2018, you just missed the boat (but could ask for a goodwill c...

Re: 18" wheel advice
That rimstyle website is great, thanks. They confirm 18 in 7.5J with ET45 will fit. It’s the 40 Leaf I have, I’m not concerned the weight will be an issue. Nissan will have spec’d the Qashqai wheels for a full load of passengers, fuel, luggage etc That’s hundreds of kilos extra I won’t ever encount...

Re: 18" wheel advice
I'm OK on the bolts/ET and all that, they're off a Qashqai and they fit the Leaf. Also OK on the insurance etc. Doesn't even look like much speed error either (if going for the 225/40 x 18) I think I'll go 40, as they're cheaper and the 45s look like they're more designed to fill the arches of a Ju...

Re: Polo GTI+ owner - downsize to UP GTI vs upsize to Golf GTI
Very short wheelbase on a relatively tall car (relative to its length) and a high centre of gravity isn't really conducive to great handling. The Lupo was much lighter (Aluminium doors and bonnet), had great Brembo brakes and a great suspension set up. The UP has none of that. The Lupo was built to...

Re: Polo GTI+ owner - downsize to UP GTI vs upsize to Golf GTI
The UP GTI isn't worthy of the badge, should've had at least 150ps. The Lupo GTI from 20 years ago had 140ps. The Up feels faster than it is because you feel like you're in danger of tipping it over if you fling it around. Apart from the seats and steering wheel, there's nothing GTI about it. Just ...

Re: GTI+ MPG after 2 years - 5000 mile / 25mpg
Unless you're driving like a total twunt, or get caught distracted and have to jump on the brakes occasionally, the ID3's brakes don't have a lot of work to do, with the regen probably accounting for 90% of my braking. Makes cleaning the wheels a lot easier - hardly any brake dust. I flick between ...

Re: GTI+ MPG after 2 years - 5000 mile / 25mpg
Yes, my EVs leave all the CO2 at the power station. NIMBY. We're considering particulates so much now that particulates from tyre wear are under scrutiny now, as well as brake dust. I think we'll all be back to brake drums soon enough, as all the pad dust is captured. Supposedly one of the re...

Re: I've stopped servicing my car at the authorized service center - here's why
The other manufacturers take the same stance. My mate has a 2019 Civic R-Type. It uses almost a litre of oil every 1000 miles. Honda won't do a thing unless it uses 1.5l every 1000 miles. I'd consider use of 1l of oil between services to be abnormal. That's shocking, it practically makes the car a ...
