Re: Parasitic Drain - Windows
Pulling together / translating that post I observe the following The J393 module is best thought of as the remote unlocking receiver. I did look for its location, but didn't find it either so said nothing. The motor moves up / down either in the normal way through the operation of the switch, or by ...

Re: Parasitic Drain - Windows
Rather than pour over the wiring diagrams I just went out to the car. Started it (because I wanted to make sure the battery had not drained). All good Ignition key out, windows work Locked myself in the car with the remote, windows work It's looking like this is a battery live, unless the relay hold...

Re: Parasitic Drain - Windows
Here's a wiring diagram in case you don't have one. By all means swap the motors around to test, but I have two thoughts for you: 1. The motor is where the current draw is showing. It's possible this is just current tracking through poor insulation or a build up of dirt on the outside, maybe carbon ...

Re: Parasitic Drain - Windows
First of all welcome :) I'll try and help, not least because I have a 6N2 with a battery that keeps going flat, so may have the same problem as you. If I understand correctly, you have reconnected the door connectors and removed the switches one by one. Be aware that the drivers switch also provides...

Check the wires to the multiplug to the right of the exhaust (looking from the front)
The wires and pins corrode and cause lots of problems, from memory

Re: Does 6N2 have interference or non-interference engine?
None of those jobs seem big or complex, and I assume the windscreen will be done by a specialist anyway.
I would check the rear brake pipes where they run along the trailing arm. They are a favourite fail point too

Re: Does 6N2 have interference or non-interference engine?
No problem at all, glad I could help. Replace the water pump if the history is unknown or there are signs of leaks. Replacing components like that is often done because the component cost is small in relation to the labour charge of having to do the whole job again, but as you are doing it yourself ...

Re: Does 6N2 have interference or non-interference engine?
It's always helpful to have the engine code. I automatically think 4 valves, but as you say, yours is a 2 valve engine. I think perhaps the VW position was to inspect and renew when necessary. Gates / INA provide an interval and it's usually around 60-80,000 miles. be cautios and change at 60,000 mi...

Re: Does 6N2 have interference or non-interference engine?
I read somewhere that I could cut the old time belt in two lengthwise, and then just fit the new one into the engine without dismantling anything. That's just wrong. You cannot even get the timing belt cover off without removing the crank pulley I believe this will not work if I also have to replac...

Re: Does 6N2 have interference or non-interference engine?
It depends how much experience and the tools that you have. It's not actually that difficult, the biggest challenge will be getting the crank pulley off. If you have a good impact gun and correct socket it's a 2 minute job. If not you will need a breaker bar and another pair of hands to hold the fly...

Re: Coolant temp up and down... but new gen stat
Definitely sounds like a stat problem......... or a stat housing problem. I had a similar issue with temp varying with load / speed, except I wasn't driving the car. It was only after I collected the car after it dumped all its coolant and diagnosed a failed head gasket that I knew what had happened...

Re: Some issues with my Polo 6N2 2001-model ...
Apologies for the late reply.. Electric windows:- you found the common problem ABS lights etc:- yes, those fuses can cause annoying problems Output from radio:- As you have tried another head unit in there you seem to have proved that the wiring is fine, so the problem is in the head unit. I don't k...

Interference.
Cambelt breaks, pistons and valves make contact with each other, but the valve stems are really thin, so they just bend. I have a thread on this somewhere

Re: cooling issue
It's a probe /thermocouple for putting into a hand held machine for reading temperature. Some multimeters have the functionality too.

Re: cooling issue
Ah, missed that, so you need to get a meter and check the contacts on the thermoswitch at different temperatures.
Can you borrow a type k thermocouple and see at what temperatures the switch opens......... and even if it is getting hot enough to
