Re: VW Service vs Self Service

I would just google 'VAG specialist (your county)', then call around and get some ballpark figures. Shouldn't cost any more than £80-£90 for an oil change and possibly a visual check over the major components. While you're at it you may as well get the tracking done if they offer it. If you're still...

Re: Polo 9n rear interior panels

Hello and welcome :) Before going about removing the rear panels it's wise to buy replacement clips first as they're quite likely to break during removal, part no is 6Q0868243, you can google/ebay that or take it to the dealers. Each panel has 5 clips on it, I bought 10 for peace of mind. Basically ...

Re: 9n Steering feels funny after spring and wheel change.

Most likely a wheel alignment issue, when you dismantle any part of the suspension it's near impossible to bolt it back together in exactly the same place, a few mm make all the difference. I have mine down every year now, after poor alignment ruined two front tyres in 5 months!

Re: Parcel shelf strap peg

One of mine was snapped off when I bought the car. I found it four months later in the spare wheel well and superglued it back on. :P

Re: Rear ARB

The 'strut brace' arb looks about as good as a limp d*ck in a brothel, as it doesn't seem to anchor to any other part of the torsion bar to resist any torsional movement, and if it really is as rigid as a strut brace then the welds would fail in seconds. A normal strut brace mounted to the tops of s...

Re: Rear ARB

i can't see that being very good. looks more like a strut brace than an anti roll bar! :| the whole point of the anti roll bar is that it uses the cantilevers on either side and a torsion bar in the middle to resist the twisting forces acting upon it. the one in the picture is literally just a bar ...

Re: Replacement Headlight 9n3 gti

Just get a replacement unit. Replacing the lens is very time consuming as you have to heat-gun all around the seal to remove the lens, even if you manage to get it off and replace it you'll probably end up with even worse condensation. Next time you want to clear condensation from the headlight just...

Re: Painting brake calipers

I've done mine with Hammerite direct-to-rust and the finish is still really good 5 months and many pressure washes later. The tin says '8 year protection' - if that's true it'll see the car out to the scrapheap. A small tin will be more than enough, I used less than half a tin on four calipers with ...

Re: Musty smell from air con?

Smelly air con is a pretty common problem. Depending on how long since it was last done, you may be due an aircon service (not just a re-gas) as a service involves removal and cleaning of the condenser which grows all kinds of mould and causes the smell when switch off. I find that if you switch off...
