Re: Android Auto Vs Tech Edition infotainment

Poss dumb question (though obv simply not knowing something don't necessarily make one dumb): as mentioned some fone satnav apps are 'free' but do they use your data allowance ? I only ask as one of my mates used his fone satnav app to navigate (pun not really intended) to one of the big London airp...

Re: Buying a Match 95 auto questions

Why would you live with an issue like that? It's not normal (unless you left it in neutral), get it in for a fix. It's a white-goods tool that takes me 3.5 miles each way every day and is rarely used in between. I really don't give a crap about it any more and cannot be bothered with a trip to the ...

Re: GTI Dipstick Removal.

Very basic question - apologies. Cannot remove the dipstick on my 2019 GTI. Has bright yellow top with two clips that fit over the rim of the filler tube. These are extremely tight and I’m reluctant to prise with anything for fear of breaking them. Tried rotating the top gently to see if there are ...

Re: GTI+ Concerns

I'm no expert mechanic but at low such miles the chances are it's perfectly ok, I was also initially surprised how much noise is made by injectors, very 'tappety'. You could always have a mechanic listen to it for peace of mind, but it really does seem like "they all do that"....

Re: Question about time belt (toothed belt)

Toothed belts, and camchains for that matter - more later, tend not to break but obviously they can and with potentially devastating engine damage. It's worth having the actual belt checked at 50,000 miles or more, and maybe or even replaced along with water pump at, say 70,000+ miles for peace of m...

Re: Hit curb at 10mph! car drives fine, now what to check?

As a former 'kerb-kisser' I found it depends on how hard one hits the kerb, at what speed and at what angle, it's easily done. Nearby is a lovely left hand bend with a tad more banking / camber than usual and if one places ones left front wheel 'just right' i.e. between the double yellow line and th...

Re: Minor Rear End Bump grrrrrrrrrr

Hate seeing this kind of thing. Main things: OP & wifey are ok the other party & their insurance accepted blame, which makes the process a heck of a lot eaiser. Stick to your guns with preferred reapairers and hope it gets sorted soon....

Re: The Harlequin has returned

My take on seeing a car with one very obvious non-matching panel is either A) it's all the breaker had and they plan getting it painted up at their convenience or B) they know what a palava it can be acheiving a perfect colour match so just aren't going to bother. Seem to recall reading one manufac...

Re: Winter Checkup Dealer Experience

Reminds me; had similar call from VW was I "interested in a winter air-con service for just £24.99 plus a complementary wash & valet, with a voluntary a deep-clense fee of £5.99?". I politely replied that since my car had covered an otherwise pathetic, but lockdown-friendly, 1600 miles...

Re: SEL 1.0 TSI 95PS or 110PS?

To complete the sickening 'posh kid vandal squad' tales, I was told by the cops that even when alighting from the bus back home in 'poshland' a few times a row of 'posh' cars got vandalised; every other one had either a wing mirror kicked off or a door panel kicked in, of course no-one ever saw anyt...

Re: SEL 1.0 TSI 95PS or 110PS?

In my last 'less than great area' many cars were regularly vandalised; fuel pipes cut, windows broken (got my window replacement time down to 15 mins, man at breaker's was well impressed), lights smashed, number plates broke in half, mirrors kicked off and stamped on, one time someone broke in just ...
