Bye bye gti….and VW!
Well it’s come time to say goodbye to my GTI. Realistically I knew I’d made a mistake switching back from the Tiguan a bit ago but my wife hadn’t quite reached that point. Well she did late October on a long trip up to Scotland when, 80 miles into the journey, she turned to me and said “you need to ...

Re: Demisting
My polo is the same but my favourite trick is to leave it on…..grazuncle2 wrote: ↑Thu Dec 07, 2023 2:16 pm There are no silly questions or wasting time posts, Pete
I don't have a button to press on my Polo..i have to turn the joystick 180 degrees to turn on the heaters.
Often forget that too

Re: Demisting
Not found door mirror or rear screen demisting to be a problem on my 2020 GTI+. I find with the rear screen, it helps if the inside glass is really clean. With the door mirrors, the heating elements may struggle to clear ice but if they’re just steamed up, then they clear almost instantly. Mines sa...

Re: temperature dial
Never heard of this issue, but if it needs to go back to the stealer can they not give you a courtesy and collect the car? My VW stealership does this.

I never knew about this, so thanks for letting me know. I always wondered how to get to updates that didn’t install first time.

Re: GTI fuel octane
If there are performance gains to be had from using higher octane fuel, with my driving being on mainly busy single carriageway A and B roads that are clogged up with other traffic at the times of day I’m out driving, I doubt I’d ever realise those gains. Not to mention that, from my experience, yo...

Re: GTI fuel octane
I’ve tried both extensively over my gti and my previous gti+ and even my wife’s 2016 gti. Yes it feels marginally more responsive but makes zero difference to my mpg. I’d rather keep my money and fire the odd tank of premium just to clean the injectors.

Re: Polo GTI won't retain settings!
From what I’ve seen on other forums, switching off Lane Assist is a simple two step process that takes literally a few seconds (I can’t try it in my 2020 GTI+ as my car doesn’t have Lane Assist). This process works on the mk8 Golf so I’m assuming it also works for the facelift Polo GTI. press the b...

Re: 18,600 miles for first service
The way I look at it @SRGTD, I always push for a two - three year service plan and it’s gone before it gets past three years anyway. So I get it serviced yearly to get the free plan in then let the next person worry. However I am currently testing cars this weekend for a longer term change and servi...

Re: 18,600 miles for first service
There’s two service regimes, long life and standard. Long life is 18000 miles or two years and standard is 10000 miles or one year. All of the cars seem to come set to long life now unless you say otherwise when you collect. Seems daft as the average person only does about 7000 miles a year in the U...

Re: Gti boot setting
I love my daughter, but there are days I wondered why I had a kid…. I love my gti, first service they said it was immaculate and I need to drive harder as I’ve still 5mm tread on my fronts :D . We do need a family car though and as someone doing the Manchester M61 run, it’s not fun in bad weather in...

Re: DSG sticking in 2nd gear
Shame to hear you’ve had such issues. My experience of polos has been they’re either great or terrible. My BlueGt had a billion problems, but my gti+ was fine. Then my facelift gti again had a bucket of problems but the replacement (touchwood) has been ok.

Re: Gti boot setting
Sorry @grazuncle2, I was in a rush to get to service as it’s a 20 mile drive and I always empty my car prior so nothing goes missing. Bad experiences with past dealerships. I’ve just got the tyre gunk, so maybe that’s why. I’ve had the car a year and didn’t even notice. Makes the boot much bigger :D...

Gti boot setting
Am I being stupid? I was always told you can’t put the gti boot in the lowest setting due to the battery. Well I just tried it on mine whilst clearing it out for service, and it went in just fine….
Am I following old advice and you can actually use the full boot of the gti?
