Unfortunately the 2 year warranty for the clutch has passed (by about 2 days lol) and I don't want to use them ever again.
I can get the parts for clutch and gear box but I don't know how to fit it. Usually all places or mobile mechanics refuse to fit parts supplied by someone else.

Re: Busted gear box VW Polo 1.9 SDI
How would I be able to tell if its definitely the gearbox as opposed to the clutch? If you remember 2 years ago I had a new clutch fitted (foolishly) by Halfords Autocentre. I'm suspecting the problem I had on Weds is stemmed from that. Changing gear when the engine is off is really difficult if at ...

Busted gear box VW Polo 1.9 SDI
Driving from London to Brighton last night and the gearbox went, couldn't shift into first or any gears, and at one point the gear stick actually came off! Couldn't do more than 60mph without the rev counter going crazy. Horrible burning smell as well. Oil had leaked under the bonnet. Spoke to my me...

Re: Power steering fluid leak
Rattling noise is coming from the pulley being bent (when I scraped the curb last month) so its obviously come loose. Power steering fluid level is fine.

Re: Power steering fluid leak
Couldn't get the bloody cap off the pump where the fluid is! I didn't have the same size screwdriver as the mechanic when he fitted it, so I can't check levels

Re: Power steering fluid leak
I think I did this when the pump was first fitted, didn't turn it 10 times though.

Re: Power steering fluid leak
The new pump has only been installed!
Air lock is a possibility I've seen it takes a while to sort itself out.

Re: Power steering fluid leak
There's now a rattling noise coming from where the pump is, it stops when I turn the wheel full left or right, but carries on if the steering wheel is straight. It went away when I did a bit of motorway driving (over 60mph) but comes back in fits after.
Can't think what is causing it.

Re: Rear tail light not working
Turns out its not the electrics, I was actually checking the wrong bulb! I was testing the 2nd one down which isn't the tail light its the 3rd one down which turned out to be a blown bulb. D'oh! Lol.

Re: Power steering fluid leak
Got one for £159 which is steep considering the size of it. Apparently they're not as commonly made for the SDI models. The circular thing the pump belt goes round shows a knock on there so was definitely when I pulled away off the kerb and caught it. Its not too badly damaged though so the pump has...

Re: Power steering fluid leak
Diagnosed the leak, the power steering pump has been damaged, presumably cos I pulled away too quick when parked high on a kerb and it made a thud noise which must have caught the pump.
Replacement isn't cheap either.

Re: Power steering fluid leak
Hmmm, the rubbing sound wasn't as high as when it originally started to break. Just can't be dealing with any more repairs cos I barely got any money as it is!

Re: Power steering fluid leak
I've never experienced this magnitude of wear even with a 1994 car a few years back!
Does a belt drive the power steering system? I can hear a rubbing sound under the bonnet, I'm hoping its not the aux again cos I've only just had that replaced.

Re: Power steering fluid leak
I just don't understand how suddenly it would leak like that, it was fine when I left the house yesterday morning.
I won't go to a dealer, not getting ripped off! The other options seem a bit more wallet friendly.

Re: Power steering fluid leak
I only noticed it late last night when coming back, and I was parking up and it was a really loud whining noise. Could the hot weather be anything linked to it? I had to drive into Central London yesterday and it was seriously very hot and the engine was running for almost 3 hours. Maybe the rubber ...
