Re: Si_GTi's progress thread. Status: Borbets ON!

Took the amber side repeaters and rear Jap lights off today, and replaced them with the originals (crystal clear repeaters and all-red rears)... might re-tint my foglights yellow again for funsies. Got lots of the tint film left over from last time, could probably do 3 more sets of foglights! Looks ...

Re: Trotta's progress thread, *!ALULINES ANYONE, help needed!!*

I'd imagine you will want some small spacers, yeah. Nice wheels though! The standard BBS rims are 6J wide and ET45. My front pair of Borbets are 7J wide and ET35, which is pretty much spot on for me. Spacers are pretty common in 5mm and 10mm sizes, so if you pop a set of 5mm spacers on the front the...

Re: What made YOU want a GTI?

My brother-in-law had a really tidy 6N 16v, which is what got me in to wanting a Polo. Went to the local dealership, was introduced to the GTi, the rest is history!

They are great looking cars, with good equipment levels, and I've grown very fond of mine!

Re: Wheel cleaning advice!

If you choose the AutoGlym stuff, make sure you get the one called "Custom Wheel Cleaner" as that is the acid-free cleaner. It has a blue logo on the spray bottle if memory serves. They also do an acid-based wheel cleaner, which you should steer clear of if you are cleaning split-rims or n...

Re: Si_GTi's progress thread. Status: Borbets ON!

Indeed, would have to do something about that grille. Mk5 R32 can be had for as little as £13500 for one of the 2006 cars. Tempting... but a Mk5 GTi is £4000 cheaper! Autocar reckoned the GTi is the better bet as it has better handling (lighter engine for starters). It won't sound like an R though :...

Re: Si_GTi's progress thread. Status: Borbets ON!

The more I think about it, the more I know I don't need a diesel, as I don't do the mileage to warrant one. R32 is top of the "want" list, just need to do some research on running costs, MPG, that sort of stuff. Don't want to leave the VW scene so the Honda is out of the question  Mk4...

Re: Si_GTi's progress thread. Status: Borbets ON!

Think I might be suffering from that "seven-year itch" business. Seriously considering selling the Polo this summer to go after a new project...... having said that, I thought about selling up several times but its not yet happened! Cheaper options include the Fabia vRS TDi or an older Gol...

Re: Sportsexhaust

Your best bet might be to have a custom back box fitted by someone like Powerflow, Longlike or Exhausts UK. Given the age of the 6N2 Polo now, not a lot of off-the-shelf products are available any longer, unfortunately.

It might be easier to just a buy a new set of (four) locking nuts mate... depends on how much it costs to get the single one!!

Re: I have returned to the VW badge...

Nice choice fella. Agree about the chrome, maybe a Golf GT-style black front grille would sort that out (leaving the chrome part around the numberplate).

I drove one of these a few months ago when my car was in for a service at VW, I was quite impressed with the pace and the refinement :)

Re: New carbon engine cover (not sure though :s)

I actually think that's quite nice  would be interested in one myself. Was going to modify my original engine cover to get the same effect (chop of the bit that surrounds the old airbox) but have been told by several VW-owning friends that if I butcher my engine cover, they might butcher me! :...

Re: Si_GTi's progress thread. Status: Borbets ON!

Picked up my UK-legal pressed plates at Ultimate Dubs. Also got some plate surrounds but I'm not convinced by them and am seriously thinking about selling them on! http://img151.imageshack.us/img151/442/img3982z.jpg So the question is, to use numberplate sticky pads or to drill them? EDIT: su...
