engine shake/ exhause gas not coming constant

Car I have is 1.0l Polo

Basically when I start the engine it 1) the engine seems like it is shaking excessively and 2) when getting out of the car and inspecting the exhaust it does not fire the gas in 1 go its as though it stop, starts, blows/pauses/blows. I am quite scared, can any1 help. Much, much appreciated.
