How to Reset Oil/Inspection Service Indicator

May be handy for anyone doing your own servicing :wink:


Polo 1999-02


OIL-Oil service

Press and hold button (A) (Located on speedometer below LCD display)
Switch ignition ON
Keep button (A) depressed until "---" appears in display
Release button (A)
Switch ignition OFF

INSP- Inspection service

Press and hold button (A)
Switch ignition ON
Keep button (A) depressed until "---" appears in display
Release button (A)
Switch ignition OFF
If required clear the "OIL" indicator from the display as previously described

so when this comes up does it mean my oil needs changing or what then?

Yes, unless the last person that changed you oil didn't reset it.

You should change the oil at least once a year or 10 000 miles. Some people even more frequent. Check the book to see when it was last done.

Great instructions!! But do i need to change my oil filter and what hav you?? coz id rather not make a mess of my engine... more than i already hav done that is! :S xxxx

it depends on when the last time the oil was changed, as it could've just been that the last person to service it forgot to reset the timer.

standard oil changing intervals are every 10k or annually. some people choose to do less though. check the service book on your car to see it was last done.

Yeh, IIRC it's every 10k, unless setup for a long service which is like 20k?

did this on my car thinking na it wont work....well second time i did, just didnt wait long enough!
