Stiff boot hinges/pistons

Hi all. Great site btw - full of really good info! keep it up

Anyways, my W reg 6n2 polo just came back from having the rear lock and barrel replaced as the mechanism had gone to pot, and i have now discovered that the boot pistons/hinges dont work very well anymore.

When you go to open the boot, it starts lifting and just stops about 1ft out - so the door is nearly horizontal against you. Its a really odd problem! To open the boot you have to push the door up, or it will never open.

Has anyone else had this problem, and if so how did they resolve it (ie new pistons or a simple fix) - and otherwise, how do i go about getting it fixed

As far as i know. They mite be nackered now. Any ideas what the price for a new pair are?

Try VAG parts in one of the sub forums on here m8. Just post a topic asking them and them will get u a price including delivery. Then if u want it he will set u up an order. O btw u get 10% discount off VAG parts by using this forum

oooh the gas struts that sounds bad - would explain it though.

Whats the rough price for a new set and can you do it yourself.

VW at poole want to charge Â£54 plus fitting

Yes the struts for the hatchback are easy to change. I just did mine on the Gti at the weekend, as mine were broken.

The struts have a small circular piece of metal (sprung) that holds them in place top and bottom. You need a small/medium size flat blade screwdriver to slip under (don't lever them right out) and release the clip, then they can be taken off. Fitting is exactly the same.
