032121121J As the centre pin can snap off so the thermostat doesn't work anymore

youll need two bottles of genuine G13+ coolant (1.5l each), then top the system up with water. Capacity is around 6 litres.

Work done to a friends garage:
Removed expansion tank cap. Removed bottom radiator hose and let all coolant pour out.
Removed thermostat housing and thermostat, a few more coolant went away.
Also cleaned out any residues from the system with pressurized air through expansion tank hole.
Installed new stat, replaced housing, o-ring and fitted hose back to the radiator.
Filled slowly with coolant mixture until it went over max and started the engine. After a minute or two i told the other guy to keep a speed to about 2000RPMs in order to reach operating temperature quicker and make sure the thermostat opened. I think It needed a little more coolant when it started circulating. Added some more and screwed back the tank cap. Let it run for a while until the radiator fun cut-in. Temperature looked fine, the whole time so turned off the engine. Fluid level about an inch over max (but that's not what bothers me. i might remove some with a syringe). What bothers me is that i only used about 3.5Lt of coolant in total  wtf?
Am i missing something?

Water can sit in the system through the block and heater matrix

As long as you put the right amount of actual coolant in its all good :)

I know, it's the only answer. But that much?
Anyway, thanks!

Nope, I've only had the car for 3 months and haven't had any problems with it. I just happened to read this post and thought, oh crap I think mine might not be working properly. Could it just be the sensor?

It's probably the thermostat stuck open causing your engine to run in lower temperature all the time and consequently getting less mpg as it consumes more fuel in order to compensate. On the long run, carbon will built up inside your cylinders due to incomplete combustion and this can potentially reduce engine performance. You should change it.

Wouldn't an open thermostat cause my car not to warm up? And I'm getting around 350 on full tank.
