Anything to make my Polo sound beefier?

Post by Daves1991 »

Hey everyone,

I apologise if this has been asked before, I've browsed through a number of posts but couldn't come to a conclusion.

I have a 1.4 8v X Reg and I mainly want to make my Polo sound a beefier? I realise it's not the most powerful car, but since I've decided to mod my car a bit I'd like to make it sound better too.

I'm not keen on having a straight through exhaust. I've read that some air filters can improve the sound, but as I'm new to cars I'm not too sure what to look for and I'd rather ask someone that does.

All advice welcome!

Thanks,

Dave.

A bmc cda air filter will make it sound rather meaty on acceleration but one thing to bear in mind it will adversely affect your MPG

A backbox would also add a bit of grunt

Thanks!

Oh LOL, I drive to work everyday so Hmm...

I've looked up the BMC CDA http://www.venommotorsport.com/filters/ ... w-polo-6n/

Is it me or are the 1, 1.4 & 1.4 16v the same just with different accessories? For the same price.

If you decide to go for a beefier sound, like a big bore exhaust it will also affect motorway driving substantially. I had a scorpion oval upswept full system on mine and hated the dreaded really loud drone noise when driving on the motorway. If you had passengers in the car, you couldn't hear each other talking. It was terrible.

If you do decide to go down that route it will also affect your MPG. I had to get mine remapped because I changed to an air induction kit (BMC CDA) and a custom made exhaust system in stainless steel (Long Life) hidden tailpipe design. I got mine with the biggest silencer that would fit under my car. Now it's great to drive, lovely sporty sound with no drone sounds. Mine is a 1.4 16v 6n2

Thanks Alan, souds like you're future me :D I'm actually looking to go down the same route as you, a BMC CDA filter with a custom stainless steel exhaust system from Profusion Customs Heathrow - going down for a quote tomorrow :D

I was considering getting a Scorpion Exhaust too LOL but read some reviews and people saying they wish they'd gone the custom route as over droning sound came in and it just sounded crap/annoying during long drives :D

Thanks again!

Go custom made exhaust and bmc cda, you wont be dissapointed. Nobody wants a droning noise when driving, its highly annoying over a period of time.

Depends on what engine you have

Just measure the outer diameter of the pipe
