51 plate 1L MPI 6n2 handbrake light flashing!

Post by NikiLees »

Driving me insane -

I turn the car on and everything is fine, handbrake light on when handbrake is on - i take handbrake off and light goes, as it should.
But then as soon as i start to drive there is 3 loud beeps then the handbrake light flashes! continuously until turned off and restarted, then you may as well read this again in a loop!

Now we have had a look and it appears to have NO ABS! *plugged into dalphi??? something like that code reader - its showing as no ABS but saying there is a fault, also a snap on code reader, again, not reading any ABS but not bringing up the problem!

Iv seen a video on youtube about this and basically the ABS sensors need a clean - there are no ABS sensors!
Another suggestion was the fuse - we have changed fuse with no difference,
Again, we have checked brake pads, theyre fine
We have also checked the fluid, its fine.
Played around with the float and thats reading and working fine (taken brake fluid cap off and let the float hang so effectively reading low fluid and the light comes on and stays solid. so i think the float and the brake fluid sensor is working fine

Where else would we go?

The brake peddle isnt dropping as though there is a air lock, so dont think thats the cause and pump the peddle and it goes nice and solid, the brakes are working fine. Only thing i could maybe pick out would be the car brakes dont seem to be very 'sharp' but then, its a 18 year old car, i dont expect them to be as sharp as a new car!

Any suggestions/help???

If it has ABS then I think the issue could be ABS system related, hence the question

Normally a ABS fault would show yellow ABS lamp, so question is the warning lamp yellow or red?

Check the level of brake fluid, if it's low, top it up and see if it still comes on when driving. If so it's normally the fluid level switch
