Im new to owning a polo (6n2) recently purchased it , my clutch biting point is good and is where it should be but the pedal is really soft and almost spongy , how can I sort this or what's involved to sort this (not really a car guy ) looking for some advice or solutions

This is probably due to a stretched clutch cable, so the first thing to do is get that replaced
After that, it'll be the release bearing and the guide sleeve which is a gearbox off job

Define soft & spongy.
Our 1.0MPI has a light clutch spring such that I can push the pedal to the floor with 2 fingers.
Also, as the pedal moves down does it feel as if you are overcoming the spring pressure in the first 1/2 of travel
OR
Does the spring pressure build towards the floor.
The latter would indicate worn clutch.
