servicing dilemma, opinions please

Post by rover220 »

right, have my 9n3 gti, its a 57 plate and only 19k miles. its due a service and im not sure what to do. do i do it myself or get the local vw/specialist to do it?

the issue is, i dont trust anyone to work on my car and the thought of work not being carried out to my super high standards annoys me.

what worries me is getting the stamp in the book for resale value, or do i keep all the receipts and use only genuine parts and hope that if at any point i have to sell it, any potential buyer accepts this?

all opinions welcome

cheers

Have you got a Volkswagen dealership in your local area?

I know how you feel because I don’t tend to trust garages either with my car and if it’s something I can do myself then I normally will have a go.
When it comes to the Service history it always looks better if you keep the book up to date and keep hold of every receipt so I do prefer to get that done at a garage despite it being relatively easy to do. Not all garages are bad but it can be hard finding a good one, the backstreet garages tend to pay their mechanics minimum wage so it’s no wonder the work done isn’t always to satisfaction.

I don’t mind paying a little extra if it means the car will be looked after and the standard of work is good.
Avoid places like ATS Euromaster, Quickfit etc as those garages are notorious for poor standards

If I still had a VAG car then I would look to get my car serviced at places such as Awesome GTI or JBS Auto Designs because they are VAG Specialists.
Places such as those two having great reputations and deal with thousands of similar cars every year so know exactly how to care for the car.

Hope this helps

ive got stafford vw local and also psi tuning pretty close.

just cant decide what to do. i know a stamp will appeal to more people in resale terms so maybe im best letting them do it.

Yeah it might be worth getting a quote from either one of them

Did you sell the 6N2 GTI and replace it with the 9N3 then?

For a car with such low mileage its certainly worth keeping the service history in check

think it depends how long you're planning on keeping the car.
If its long term then to me not having stamped service history would be less of an issue (assuming you keep receipts for parts).
But if only short term may well put of buyers.
