6N-1 Cutting out

Post by koolie »

Hey everyone,

'99 model 1.4 8v CL (UK/EU) petrol manual (6N-1) --- is not a GTI...

Now, I'm new to the whole diagnosing OBD-II codes and pulling cars apart etc. LOL
trying to link the OBD-II codes with VAG codes is one step harder it seems... and I apologise for the use of links in advance...

I've been given a couple of codes in the order in which they came... from a Bosch KTS 200 readout:

I assume these are (P) codes as none other seem relevant... as it's been suggested its the throttle body...

P0215 - Engine Shutoff Solenoid Malfunction --- this ones got a VAG code: 16599 ---- I assume this one is preferred as it has a VAG code?

http://engine-codes.com/p0215.html
P0215 - Fuel Injection Pump Control Circuit

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

P0231 - Fuel Pump Secondary Circuit Low - Found out this was caused by the air (additive) being too low - air filter wasnt properly attached (caused by the other code?)

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

A possibly related problem with the 4th cylinder gunking up and misfiring was improved by replacing the HT leads and dissy cap it seems... for now...

The Bosch KTS system diagnoses the following descriptions:
P0215 - idle control above adaption limit
P0231 - Lambda adaption additive too low - was solved by reattaching the air filter? strange?

Plugging it into a VAG code reader - It shows 00533 - Idle Speed Regulation: Adaptation Limit (Add) Exceeded...

Is there even an engine shutoff switch (apart from the ECU)? It appears to mainly stall when I press the brake or am slowing down after going some speed... but also happens when its cold? when pressing the elec. window switches, it drops the idleing speed? electrical issues too or completely unrelated?

Could this be the fuel pump relay?

I'm considering buying the Maxiscan VAG 405 to diagnose it further? but would it give the same information as the monthly updated Bosch KTS 200? would it be able to reset the TBA?

What would you suggest might be an idea worthy looking at, cos I am puzzled to say the least!!! haha

Replace the fuel filter, the relay and the Coolant temp sensor and all that will clear.
