Burnt valves and way ahead (BME swap AZQ)

Hi all, need your expert advice:

I drive Polo 1.2, Petrol, S64 with BME Engine. It has the dreaded valve issue.

I have 2 choices

(1) Take the head off and get it overhauled
(2) I have another engine, but it is AZQ. Does anyone know if this is the same engine. Its is out of a Skoda 2003, 1.2 Fabia with 50’000 less miles than mine and seems to have no problem.

So what do you think is best option – Head overhaul or engine (AZQ) swap?
Everyone – thanks for your knowledge, Tom

You cannot easily swap a B series engine to an a series. They are mechanically different and also electrically different

A head overhaul isn’t that much work. I would go down that route personally

Many thanks for for guidance.
So I will set the AZQ aside and figure out what to do with it later.

That leaves me with taking the head off and getting Valves done.  My Dad has I believe a good garage of tools except the timing locking set.

May I ask is it a complicated job?  I am a little intimidated by the timing for the three cylinder so everyone - any advice would be greatly appreciated or are there any other big issues or problems in taking head off and replacing.   What other costs would i need to build into the project.

By the way - an engineering works has costed me 180 plus vat worst case for the head overall.

Great - Thanks all and know that advice is appreciated!!
