hi
i have a mk 2 ranger 1300
going along last week, it just cut out - felt like it jumped out of gear - which it didnt box ok clutch ok cos it moves on the starter in gear
we think it might be the coil but cant really test it
there is no spark and it just cranks over and over without catching
if it is the coil would it just die like that???
fuses are fine and all other electrics are working bar the starting
please help
thanks

Easiest way to check if the coil is ok is to unplug the centre lead from the dizzy, pull the rubber cover back slightly and hold the end close to the block whilst turning the engine over on the starter. (hold the lead with a piece of rubber or wear some thick gloves so you don't get a shock )
If there are lots of blue sparks, then the coil is fine and the problem's probably in the distributor cap - check to see if the carbon rod inside the dizzy cap touches the rotor arm, the rotor arm itself is ok, or that the cap isn't wet inside or cracked.
Hope this helps.

tried the lead off the coil
when i put ignition on it sparks once and then nothing when i crank engine
ive been told it might be the hall sender in the dizzy
got coil from halfords put it on and nothing
should i be concentrating on dizzy?
