How to solder stuff

Post by polo2k »

for most work on the electrical ststem you will need to connect wires in some way shape of form. there are a few choises including crimped connections and soldering, soldering being the mosst reliable.
So what do i need?
soldering iron
solder
some way of stripping the insulation off the wires in question
some way of insulating the new joint
Well thats all well and nice but how do i do it?
firstly you need to prepare the joint by making sure you have clean surfaces to solder and if you are using heat shrink then feed that on first (dont laugh it happens  ) then twist your wieres, or hold the wire to item to be soldered to.
then heat the joint with the iron and wait a seciond or 2.
touch the solder to the other side of the jhoint and if it melts then your good to go, otherwise touch the tip of the soldering iron with the solder so that there is a larger contact area to pass the heat. you want a jount that is shiny and strong but not with so much solder on it that you gain a second on the 1/4 mile.
the next step is to stop trying to gron an extra arm to hold the wire cos its possible without. :D
