Fitting 12v Power Socket

Post by Petrified »

I've bought one of these 12v Power Sockets from Vag Parts.

I can fit it. But not sure what to connect the cables to.

Can anyone suggest the best place? It's going in the boot of my 9n.

Cheers.

Fitting this really depends on what u want to run off it!!!
Most 12v appliances take a big whack out of your battery. ....say 4amps for a powered coolbox....(appliance wattage X 12(volt) = Amps) So u've got to be careful what u run. .......gotta make sure cable is strong enough to take the flow....
If I were u m8, i'd take the positive side of the terminal to an ignition live (if you want the socket to be live when the ignition's on!) via a fuse..(usually 10amp)....thru some 17.5 amp cable. Otherwise take it to a permanent ignition live.(the socket would be live permanently(could drain your battery :( )..Take Negative side direct to battery negative or attach to chassis via a good connection!
..To be safe I would get some advice from a VW dealership!
U r better to run new cables direct to battery or fusebox rather than mess with existing cables......you could end up setting off airbags etc!!!
Hope thats of some help!

I run all my appliences off a distribution block in the boot that I installed when I did my boot build.

The cable that supplies that is pretty hefty.

I can run an inverter, coolbox or amateur radio off there!

Thanks!

I'va actually got an amp kit installed direct from the battery. So I'll probably use that. Just havn't got round to getting the amp yet

The idea was to have somewhere neat to plug the fridge in :D

At the moment I run the cable to the fron lighter socket, and velcro the fridge in the boot! Holds pretty well...
