Few small updates, went back to a scrapping vRS which is fairly local to pick up some plastic bits:

My old scabby boot trim:

improved one:

Previous owner must have had a dog, this is the bottom passenger B pillar trim

old v new

I've still gotta find a glovebox lid, then they're all replaced.

Also, this was bugging me on the drivers side door seal
Image

So I got a new one
Image

Icing on the cake though, my steering wheel arrived! from an Octy on here, standard wheel retrimmed in Bentley leather

fitted

I absolutely love it! Finishes off the interior lovely, the leather feels amazing, really smooth.

Will get some proper pictures of the interior when I've had the last bits and bobs glossed black.

Nice work Tim :) that steering wheel looks awesome

Top marks again for the attention to detail, looks like its going to be another stunner like your old GTI.
Do you still keep in touch with the person who bought it?

Did some work on my sub box today.

Measured up to trim down excess
Image

Trimmed
Image

Cut down some 12mm MDF for the front, did a trial fit, lovely a snug under my shelf!
Image

I applied a 3rd coat of fibre glass all round, then Cut an MDF top down to size and fitted
Image
Image
There's an obvious discrepancy between the MDF top and fibre glass, but the when I merge the FG to the MDF with 2 layers in and out it will eliminate these

Sub hole cut out (yes, my first wonky counter sunk holes were drilled in the wrong place!)
Image

My plans were to have the sub sitting flush with the front, but unfortunately I just haven't got space!! Even with the hole for the sub as far along as possible, there isn't enough room to clear the arch, here's how it sits unflushed
Image
Image
To get it flush would involve making the sub box larger by re-shaping the sides. I'm gonna leave it as it is, as I don't want it protruding into the boot any more.

I cut a cardboard stencil to take the shape of the final side, and fibre glassed it
Image
Image

Not much left to do now. I've just ordered some more fibreglass to bond the MDF to the existing fibre glass, then felt it and fit terminals and sub!

Love this!
And is the sound proofing very effective? Something worth doing?

Hi mate,

Yes it makes a tonne of difference.

Not only to blocking out exterior sounds, and decreasing vibrations within the car from the speakers. But it also gives the car a nice feel. When I close my car boot and front doors, it feels like a solid well built car.

I worked out the other day that the sound proofing owes me 13.3kg. So I'm definitely going to go ahead and remove the back box to compensate.

May as well update whist I'm here:

Been a little busy with work, but did some more work on the box, nearly there now.

First layer of the missing side done (I have since added two more coats and masked over the lip picture here)
Image
top smoothed over
Image

Hole drilled for wire connectors
Image

I loosely measured the internal volume, 25 litres. Just a little over manufacturers recommendation; perfect!
Image

All sanded down and ready for carpet.
Image

I'm now sporting a 9N3 polo rear wiper

Image

The more I looked at the wiper blank, the more it just looked naff. This has more on an OEM appeal. Plus with the amount of motorway miles I do, no wiper was becoming a bit of an annoyance.

I also sound proofed the tailgate before re-fitting:
