NEED STEERING CONTROLS AND PADDLES FOR SKDOA RAPID PQ25

Post by Navein »

I am Navein from India. I am an Automobile Parts and Accessories dealer ( Import & Export )

I own a Skoda Rapid 2019 DSG ( Monte Carlo Edition ) 1.5 TDi
VIN : TMBBVMNA7KG019089

I am interested in upgrading my stock steering ( with out paddle shifters ) to Paddle shifters steering wheels.

I contacted the Indian Retrofit guys ( VAGTUNE , GERMAN DNA & NSQUARE ) and they charged me 1200 USD ( very expensive without airbag ).

While hunting the paddle wheels on internet came to see a paddle steering wheel from Cars-equipment which fits PQ25 Platform ( link mentioned below )

https://www.cars-equipment.com/en/shop/ ... at-bottom/

PURCHASED FOR 350 USD ( LANDING PRICE IN INDIA )

I thought it would be direct fit which makes all functions work well but unfortunately having the below issues.

After installing the new wheels paddles works fine
1, Horn not working
2, steering controls not functioning proper
a, left volume roller UP/DOWN increases volume in Head Unit
b, Right roller UP/DOWN increases volume in Head Unit
c, Left volume straight press works as Volume increase in Head unit
d, Right Roller straight press works as Volume decrease in Head Unit
e, all the other call, track change buttons are not working.

Again contacted the Indian Retrofit guys ( VAGTUNE , GERMAN DNA & NSQUARE ) for installation help but came to an end that no one will help me even if I pay them.

They need me to purchase the steering again with them for 1200 USD.

I thought to taking it to a good mechanic who can fix it to me and after a long struggle he says its not a direct fit and he contacted some techie from Germany and these steering controls needs some PCB to be installed , So that he can make it work.

Again he is charging me 800 USD for the PCB and VCDS coding.

I am really got fed up with this , can some one help me in this.

Ready to pay if they can make it in a professional way.

The favour to this will be highly appreciated.

Hi Navein

I have limited knowledge on the matter but here is what I know. If your car is PQ25 electronics the steering wheel you got won't work. You need the equivalent from Skoda Superb 2 FL, Fabia 2 FL, Yeti etc

https://www.cars-equipment.com/en/shop/ ... wheels-12/

The steering looks the same but the mfsw controls from Fabia 3, Superb 3, Octavia 3 won't work on PQ25, PQ35 cars.

You can find more information on the subject on briskoda.net

For example
https://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/3 ... ent-wrong/

https://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/4 ... questions/

And similar threads.

...to replace them with the ones that were included in the steering wheel you purchased.

However, your instrument cluster (NOT MFA+) is not compatible with some of these buttons, because your instrument cluster does not have additional menus (you can only go up and down for the trip computer data), therefore the menu buttons will not work.

On the other hand, it is not compatible to have the buttons for the trip computer on the steering wheel and on the wiper lever at the same time. I guess you will have to change the wiper lever for one without buttons for the trip computer.

It remains to be seen if the original airbag wiring of your Skoda Rapid is compatible with these new buttons.

Could you please show an image of your airbag wiring harness? I suspect that there lies a problem for your horn not working.

It is difficult to understand why the horn does not work with the original airbag and the original airbag wiring. Something is wrong with the airbag wiring ... check the connections.

Take several pictures of both wiring looms. (original and new)
Pay particular attention to the wires that arrive to the black connector for the buttons.

On your first post, you have two pictures. One of the car with mfsw buttons only on the left side. Is this picture from your car? If yes can you post the code from those buttons and the code for the airbag wire that came with your car?

On https://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/4 ... nt=4862593 there are the following info
My understanding is that there are ~8 different 5E0 part numbers. They are split between two different communication types for PQ35/46 or MQB cars.

If your module supports 3T0 buttons (Skoda Superb II), I believe it should support 5E0 buttons designed for PQ35/46 cars. It will not support 5E0 buttons designed for MQB cars.

ETKA suggests the following:

- 5E0919719 (Fabia3, MK3 Octavia)

- 5E0919719A (Fabia3, MK3 Octavia)

- 5E0919719B (MK3 Octavia)

- 5E0919719C (Fabia2, Rapid, Roomster)

- 5E0919719D (Fabia2, Roomster)

- 5E0919719E (Rapid, MK2 FL Superb, FL Yeti)

- 5E0919719F (Rapid, MK2 FL Superb, FL Yeti)

- 5E0919719G (MK2 FL Superb, FL Yeti)

That shows that 5E0919719/5E0919719A/5E0919719B are for MQB cars so will definitely not work.

I think that 5E0919719C only has the left hand buttons. Not sure about 5E0919719D.

That leaves the following as the best match for a PQ35/46 car such as your MK2 Superb:

- 5E0919719E - without telephone controls

- 5E0919719F - with telephone controls

- 5E0919719G - supports DSG paddles

According to this post, MQB and PQ25/35 buttons are not interchangeable.

The same info are stated here https://www.drive2.ru/l/8114854/
The following
mqb buttons are suitable for platforms (Octavia A7, Rapid 16 model year and new Fabia, Superb)
5E0-919-719 without phone
5E0-919-719-A with phone
5E0-919-719-B with phone and DSG petals
3V0- 919-719-A with telephone and assistant button, white backlight (installed on cars from model year 16)
3V0-919-719-B with telephone, assistant button and DSG petals, white backlight (installed on cars from model year 16)

PQ (25, 35, etc.) (Octavia A5Fl, Yeti and others)
5E0-919-719-C is only the left side from Fabia, in the same place is the phone control button.
5E0-919-719-D has not met, as far as I know from Fabia, it seems like on two sides.
5E0-919-719-E regular without telephone
5E0-919-719-F with telephone
5E0-919-719-G with telephone and DSG petals
5E0-919-719-L with telephone. goes to Yeti since 2016, white backlight
5E0-919-719-M with phone and DSG petals, goes to Yeti since 2016, white backlight
On the L and M buttons , the backlight may not work with the steering wheel blocks of the 1k0-953-549 series. The same problem was observed on Rapid with the BCM 087R block

Since your car came with 5E0919719C buttons that fall in the PQ25/35 category, I think you need to pick buttons from that category.

With the info I can find, I would recommend you get the 5E0919719G that is DSG compatible.

5E0971584A you have already bought should work with the 5E0919719G buttons also. But my guess is that the original cable 5JA971584 would also work since it is working with your original buttons.

As with the (2015-2018) 6C MFSW installed on the 6R (2010-2014), one of the keys was in the airbag wiring wires configuration.
There were more things to check (coding, ground points, etc), but this is the only one worth mentioning here at the moment ...

The airbag harnesses that Navein has are different when it comes to wires configuration. This wires configuration can be modified, ...but only by expert hands....
It is a pity that Navein did not take more detailed pictures of the wires reaching to the connectors. (colors of wires reaching T12, T5, and slot number of each wire)

To modify the wires configuration, the original wiring diagrams (elsaWin, or erWin) are required:
- from MFSW Skoda Rapid 2019 IND.
- and from MFSW Skoda Fabia / Octavia 2016 Europe.

I only know Govindsharma who might have them, ... get in touch with him and ask him to share them here or send them to my email (in PDF file :)).

Hello Sir

I found 5E0919719G on cars equipment but has additional word. WHS
https://www.cars-equipment.com/www/en/s ... rettyPhoto

Does WHS mean something ?

And are you sure it works or should I give a try ?
