12v cigarette lighter. 2007 1.2 Polo

Post by Saxonia »

Hi all

My 12v power supply is loose within the ashtray mounting. It looks like that some sort of plastic retaining sleeve has broke on the inside of the 28mm (?) hole. I've tried to improvise make it more sturdier without much luck. If I buy a £5 ish replacement can it be done from the top down or will the whole centre unit been to be removed ?

It depends how broken it is. If you can get the metal socket out of the orange casing it can be done from above. Otherwise it needs to be released from underneath

The metal housing comes up through the hole so I should be able to get to the connector .. wondering if a new one with a plastic sleeve in place will snap into position from the top ?

The plastic sleeve goes in first then the metal part of the lighter goes into it and locks into its locking pins. It only goes one way

So plastic in, plug in cigarette lighter through it then refit metal
