Hi Everyone,
What scan tool works well with Polo 9N3 2008 or what scan tool do you use?
I am on a budget so I was just planning to get the VAG 405 below.

Re: Scan Tool Recommendation
Hi, I am thinking that most people are holding back from replying to this thread due to there being a change in the maybe protocol used by VW Group round about this time.
Maybe ask the seller if they can confirm that this scan tool works okay with all VW Group cars manufactured up to 2018, that should clear things up.
When I owned a 2000 Passat and a 2002 Polo and my daughter bought a late 2009 SEAT Ibiza, the original small scan tool I had bought would not work too well with the late 2009 Ibiza, when I sold my 2000 Passat and my wife's 2002 Polo, I moved on to using Carista for carrying in the cars. I always have owned VCDS which gets updated regularly to keep up with the latest models for use at home in my garage.

Re: Scan Tool Recommendation
I agree with RUM4MO and my experiences is quite limited. I really like VCDS but it's a bit unclear what you'd like to do with the tool.
The older tools will probably work just fine with the 9N3 since that platform hasn't changed for about 10 years.

Re: Scan Tool Recommendation
RUM4MO, thanks for the reply. When you said "original small scan tool" are you referring to that VAG 405 scanner or is it a different scanner? VCDS seems to be the best but a bit pricey.
iichel, thank you too for responding. I simply just want to read/clear DTCs and clear the oil service lamp. I agree that VAG 405 might work because the 2008 Polo is using K-line protocol which is now slowly being replaced by CAN.
By the way, I did contact the seller. They said VAG 405 will work with 2008 Polo.

Re: Scan Tool Recommendation
Lester, yes it did look very much like the VAG 405, so if they say it works with 2008 9N3 Polo, then that should be good!

Re: Scan Tool Recommendation
Got the VAG 405 scan tool and tested it with my 2008 Polo.
I can read and clear DTCs and can read ECU information. That's all I wanted to do for now.
I cleared the service icon indicator by holding the trip meter reset button before switching to ignition.

Along with VCDS
I have this Creader generic code reader that works on the polo 9n3 using KWP
But it does not support the O2 sensor or evap test or any eCU information but for €40 3 years ago it's ok

Thank you for sharing, Gerinemo. That looks much nicer than mine with its colored screen and higher screen resolution.
Will consider this when my VAG 405 breaks.

Re: Scan Tool Recommendation - SOLVED
Can be had now on ebay for about €20
Added it it to my collection of tools a few years ago when my sisters Corsa D was giving grief
the original Opcom I had was a Serial based scan tool that did not do Can Bus so I needed something that could read can bus and kwp.
I later picked up a USB version of opcom for Opel / Vauxhall.
Now of course the Opel has gone and she now has a 2018 Peugeot 208 so I will be looking for a diagnostic tool for that soon enough .

Re: Scan Tool Recommendation - SOLVED
I kind of regret getting the VAG 405 after seeing your much nicer CReader VI.
Would have definitely chosen the CReader VI if I had known earlier that it works with Polo 9N3.
