Non-existent radio signal

Post by Portland Bill »

Hello all again,

So the same polo that I recently acquired, has some kind of issue with the radio signal.

The radio doesn't work with the stock head unit, which I've now replaced for a Pioneer HU because I need a handsfree kit, but that didn't make any difference, and it still couldn't find any stations.

So I replaced the aerial. That seemed to resolve the issue for a couple of days, before it started to lose it's signal again, to the point where I once again can't find any stations.

Any ideas?

Cheers

Kristian

Have you got a power amplifier fitted onto the aerial wire? These require a power feed, and a direct plug from the radio into the aerial without an amplifier will provide little to no signal

Sorry for the delayed response. Things got a bit mad, and I've only just had a chance to come back to this.

The power wire for the aerial is connected, and I've just tested it, and it is definitely powered, but still I have no signal.

You might need a signal booster/amplifier Bill (as well as the aerial signal amp).
ISTR that the original VW radios had a built in signal booster/amp.

I should clarify that it didn't work with the original VW Factory Head Unit either.

I'd completely forgotten about that. Apologies!

Quite possibly a broken wire or aerial then. Id test with a different aerial and see if it works

Just a thought, your not trying to get a DAB radio to work with an AM/FM active aerial?
