Complex problem (need help)

Post by mannyman »

Hi I am new to this forum and I am a proud owner of a vw polo 1.4 tdi 2007 been driving it for couple of months and love it so far. Its been reliable so far however there is now a problem with the car and I been trying to figure out what it is. I could really use some help.

Problem:

- Car loses power randomly while driving on third gear and unable to accelerate, abs light comes on along with the engine management light so I am forced to pull the vehicle to the side of the road which is quite dangerous in middle of traffic. But after turning off the car and on car runs fine back on road.

- During driving randomly the glow plug light comes on for a second and the car jitters and jumps forward then continues normally once the glow plug light goes away which only lasts split second.

Whats been done so far:

Took it to a local garage they replaced the accelerator pedal which they said needed replacing as shown on their diagnostic tools and fuel filter was changed just in case. Yet same problem nothing has been fixed. They tried to do diagnostics and the only code which came up was:

'01314 Engine Control Module No Communication'

But I do not trust those tools as I felt like I wasted money getting accelerator replaced and the fuel filter. Or maybe it could just really be the ECM along with multiple problems. The mechanics said there really was a problem with the accelerator pedal as when they replaced it the codes went away. But I do not feel a difference and the problem still remains the same.. Also the mechanics never had the light come on for them during test driving which made it more difficult to diagnose the issue. They told me I should just take it to a VW specialist which will do diagnostics first but this is going to be costly.

I mean does anyone know from experience driving this ever happening to them? I have never seen a problem like this before and its frustrating me because I do not know what it exactly is!

Check the wiring going to the ECU (CAN, power, grounds), check the ECU connector for water ingress and corrosion.
Clean ground points of the ECU and inspect any fuses for hairline cracks or other damage.
If this is all fine, perhaps the ECU itself has some issue.

Hi I managed to find ecu connector and i took it out to check for any damages or corrosion and it seems to be ok but problem is connecting it back! Cant seem to go back in I tried with force and wont go in. Here are some pictures you might want to see. I am not expert but are these connectors fine?
