Hi all.
Recently aquired a 9n3 gti.
I have noticed when sat in traffic the cabin starts to smell a bit fumey - im wondering if the breather circled in green needs moving to lower/further forward in the bay?
Also i notice the recirc/dv at the back of the engine is in a differnt place to most people.
Car runs fine so if its not broke is rather not mess! Thanks.

Re: Engine bay pic and queries
Looks like some aftermarket blow off valve or perhaps an oil catch can. It's certainly not an OEM part.

Re: Engine bay pic and queries
Which bit? The circled bit or the bit behind the engine?

Re: Engine bay pic and queries
turns out the circled bit is just a random breather filter so i need someone with some know-how to get all this tidied up.
rather than a recirc valve its got a atmospheric dump valve on as well so i could do with someone giving me a hand sorting all that out and going with something like a forge 007p and then deleting that N-bypass thing and the other crap under the engine cover. No idea what size tubes and joiners and jubilees are needed though?!

Re: Engine bay pic and queries
Theres some debate over whether removing the N249 is actually worthwhile. If its working, then leave it be. The turbo performs better with it connected, and the prespool up is faster than without due to the way the engine management works
As for getting rid of the 007p, you are best to fit a brand new genuine VW diverter valve (about £30-40 from TPS/the dealer) and get it back to how its meant to be. A breather valve on a DV like that will just make a right old mess

Re: Engine bay pic and queries
i have the standard plastic DV in the shed so will fish that out later, remove the atmospheric dump valve and hook it back up how it should be. Hopefully the standard dv can deal with the extra boost since the cars mapped.
ill also move that breather filter further down and out the way in the bay so then we should be all good.

Re: Engine bay pic and queries
My Edition 30 was running a Stage 2 map pushing around 400bhp on the stock DV. Of course, its a different engine, but very similar to the 1.8T
The latest stock DVs are very strong.
