Headlights connection for aftermarket stereo dimming

Post by Portland Bill »

Does anyone know if there's a lights connection for the car stereo?

I've tested all the outlets on the VW plug, and there doesn't seem to be any difference in output on any of them when the lights are switched on or off.

This thing is pretty bright when I'm driving at night, so a way of automatically dimming the head unit when the headlights are turned on would definitely be a bonus if anyone can advise where I could make a connection for it.

You could try to get it off the Rear De-mister switch? I think that lights up when you turn the lights on. Although I'm not sure if you could use that, someone else will have to verify.

You can tap into the lighting at the ashtray
the lighting is connected to the cigarette lighter
That is what I did for my aftermarket stereo
