I can't believe I'm posting about changing a bulb!!

Post by trenchn »

Hi,
My son got some upgraded headlamp bulbs,( universal ones that don't fit!!) for Christmas. We have corrected the first issue, IE getting the correct bulbs, but for the life of me I cannot see how to disconnect the bulb from the little socket. All the tutorials just say remove the fitting, but unless I am just not trying hard enough, I cannot do this. Surely I shouldn't have to brace both legs against the radiator and pull with all my massive might.
Any help/ advice very gratefully received.
Thanks
Nick

What year is your polo? Is it the newer shape where the headlight has to be removed to change the bulbs?

No, it's an 06. The bulbs come out of the back of the headlamp. I've managed that. I can't disconnect the bulb from the wiring.

They just pull out if it’s the H7 bulbs for the dipped beam

Pop a pic up of what you have in front of you and I’ll guide you 👍🏻

Ok the bulb just pulls out. Put a small flat head between the metal base of the bulb and the metal surround that goes onto the plastic you see to separate it a little to make it easier

Ah, I have. It's black plastic bit at the end that is causing the problem. I don't want to force it, but it is stuck fast.

So just pull it in a straight line, I don't need to press in the side or lift tabs or anything?
OK, I'm off to try again now.

OK, so I 've got one off. Should the metal plate have come off as well?

No, the metal plate is what holds it in to the headlight assembly. They do sometimes pop off though so just put it back on. Be sure to put the new bulb in the right away around - take note of the locating tab
