Bypassing Heating Matrix/Bridging coolant system.

Post by Portland Bill »

Sorry to keep posting about this, but I'm struggling to get the bits I need.

So I've been kindly given the part number for the part I need to replace in the cooling system of my car, however, my local dealership wants over £100 for the part, and they won't be able to get it in until early next week, and they're an hour away from me and can't deliver to my house, so I'd have to drive the two hour round trip just to pick the part up. I also need my car this weekend.

I'm just wondering whether I'd be ok to just link the two loose hoses for now, and cut out the heating matrix in my dash just to keep myself on the road, albeit I'm guessing I won't have any heating in the car until I sort the problem out properly. In that time I could drive to my local breakers yard, and see if I can find a used one, and do what I need to do at the weekend.

What say you?

Yes that should be okay, a bit cold though, but needs must!

You need to know that getting these new pipes, or any pipes onto the heater matrix stubs and sealed is going to be quite a job - apparently!

A pair of new seals will need to be included in your parts ordering.

Yes you can. If the pipes arent leaking/split, then i would just refit them temporarily

Be sure to replace the O-Rings on the ends of the metal pipes

Yeah I'm fully expecting it to be a pain in the arse to get the new ones back on. They're not exactly in an accessible place, but hey ho. Just have to deal with a cold car for a few days.

I had wondered why it seemed to be leaking more now, than it was in summer. More demand on the heater at this time of year.

Never mind... I'm just glad I finally found the leak, and that its outside of the vehicle.

If its the matrix, why not try the K-seal.
