EGR Vacuum Pipe
Hello guys,
My first post - go easy on me - haven't found anything via the search engine so hope someone can help out
I am trying to address a possible EGR issue
First, I want check something in relation to the vacuum pipe.
There is a slot in the pipe near the end which pushes onto the EGR.
When I first noticed this I thought it was a cut but upon closer inspection it looks like it may be the way the pipe is designed.
Can anyone confirm one way or the other?

Something has rubbed and cut into that. That pipe needs to be replaced

You're correct, the pipe has rubbed but I'm only referring to the cut/slot which you can see in the image...
No offence intended but are you just passing an opinion based on the photo or do you have some means of comparing like for like with another Polo 1.4 TDI

I had a 1.4 TDI previously and exactly the same problem occurred. Ill dig out a photo of how the pipe should look. Watch this space

Its sold as a complete part - not to say you cant replace the hoses with a suitable replacement but they dont sell them seperately
The hose has a foam bumper - if you look carefully you can see its worn through the foam bumper, and also through the inner wall of the hose

I rang VW the other day and was told the part only comes as a set (as shown in your picture) and they quoted £66
When you look closely, that slot is so neat it looks like it's been manufactured and really should be there but this wouldn't make sense given it's a vacuum pipe.
I was hoping VW would have one to compare it with but it's 'to order only'.
When you say you had the same problem, did you find a cut/slot as shown in my photo or just rubbing in general?

Thats right - list price is circa £60 on trade from what I checked
It does, but its definitely a cut through as mine as almost identical from a nearby cover rubbing against it
I would just replace the affected hose with a new section of vacuum hose of the same internal diameter. Local motor factor should stock it by the meter

I didn't doubt your advise but I had already sent these pics to two separate VW dealers and they have now confirmed what you said is correct - there should not be any cut/slot in the pipe.
As a temporary measure, I have cut off the bad section of the pipe and pushed it back onto the EGR valve nipple. Actually, I don't see why it couldn't just stay like that - a very economical fix
Now, I only have one of those cheap OBD readers off Amazon which, prior to this 'fix' was showing two fault codes - 17911 and 19586
Pleased to report (fingers crossed) that attending to the vacuum pipe seems to have fixed 19586
Only showing fault code 17911 now - hopefully this thread will fix that one too!
