Exhaust valves, misfire

Post by harrythor »

Recently my 1.2 has been misfiring on idle, and my mechanic thinks it'll most likely be the common problem on these engines, a burnt out exhaust valve.

Obviously this is a labour heavy job, and the quote is around the £1000 mark, with around 9 hours labour they reckoned.

In the meantime, will there be any further damage caused by driving, when it doesn't misfire? The car runs fine when driving.

Cheers

My Brother in law also has a 1.2 polo
Recently there was a misfire and I also assumed it would be a burnt out valve.
But happy to say the garage he went to did a compression test first and it was just a coil that needed to be replaced .

So did the garage do a compression test or are they guessing the valve is burnt out.

Also if the valve is burnt out and misfiring
Then unburnt fuel will damage the catalytic converter if left too long.
