Starting issues? Help please?

Hi,
Posting on behalf of my sister who just bought a second hand polo 2008. The car came with 2 keys one has a small button on it that doesn’t seem like it does anything? And the other just just a regular key. It seems to cut out a couple seconds after starting it with the key with the button on it but with the other keys it doesn’t seem to do that. Does anyone know what that could be?
I was thinking that key with the button could be some kind of immobiliser? But I’m not sure..?

Maybe, just maybe, that push button is only to switch on a small light in the key to assist in finding the door/ignition lock, and maybe that key has not got a transponder chip that is programmed, or it is not programmed to that car so now only useful for unlocking the door.

I have noticed now that the immobiliser light flashes why trying to use the key with the button which I believe means it’s not programmed properly to the car? And this is probably the issue..
