Can't push wishbone pin into bushing. Any tips?

Post by flanagaj »

I am fitting new wishbones to the polo (aluminium subframe) and I just cannot get the pin to go inside the bushing. I have marked a line on the edge of the hexagonal pin so I can see it is aligned correctly, but it just won't go. I have tried levering it in with a small crow bar, but not moving a smidge.

I know you cannot use grease or oil based lubricant, but could I use washing up liquid?

Any tips welcomed.

Thanks

All done. In the end I used a bit of washing up liquid and some water.

Good, maybe for others, VW do sell an assembly grease compound, mainly to apply to the rubber bush outer and the alloy console, to help get the bush into the console, that also could be used to lubricate the inner hole and wishbone pin. From reading how people have done this job, I thought that a webbing strap was needed to "draw" the pin into the console bush.

Edit:- I've never done that job, I wimped out and bought the Cupra versions and got a local proper VAG indie to fit them and check the 4 wheel alignment afterwards.
