Plug and Play Sound system (Sub and Amp)
Plug and Play Sound system (Sub and Amp)
So, as payment for lending my car to my father, he has agreed to foot the bill on the VW Plug and Play Sound system.
Basically its a sub and amp that go in the boot, replacing the spare wheel (brave I know). The sub adds base while the amp drives all the factory speakers.
Getting it fitted next Wednesday, anyone already have it?

This sounds interesting. Post some pics when its done. Is it a discrete system? Iv got an old sub out of the focus which i had in the boot well but wasnt sure to install it or not. Any idea what brand the sub/amp is?
Re: Plug and Play Sound system (Sub and Amp)
Put an image of it in OP. Its a Helix system, apparently based off some pretty good kit. It piggybacks into the car system amplifying all the channels
Re: Plug and Play Sound system (Sub and Amp)
just thought iv put my pioneer dab system in so its useless to me. damm
Re: Plug and Play Sound system (Sub and Amp)
Hmm, I have no idea how it would work with after market. I amped my old MK5 Golf by piggybacking the speaker lines from a pioneer head unit so I didnt have to rerun the speaker cable to the doors.Mayhem wrote:just thought iv put my pioneer dab system in so its useless to me. damm
To be fair if you are already aftermarket you could have a more powerful setup for less using your head-units preouts.
Re: Plug and Play Sound system (Sub and Amp)
Also, apprently the amp is a Helix PP20-DSP with some of the user side features such as the SD card removed. It comes with the ability to be loaded with premade profiles for each VW car, and funny enough the polo profile is preloaded!

I have it in my Blue GT – sounds very good.
Be aware that there in fact are 4 settings for the Polo: 7, 8, 11 and 13:

And it requires a special dongle to change the settings:

I would be interested in this (though God knows what I would do with the spare...), but when I looked into it, the installation didn't appear very plug & play. Please let us know how you get on.

Im a bit confused aqbout that. In the offical VW instructions found here: https://docs.google.com/file/d/1T_I26gV ... Xx/preview
It says:
Not sure if I should ask when its being installed for them to install a program anyway? According to a German forum, it comes with the Polo 3 door profile ready loaded.1.6 Code the amplifier
All vehicles except Polo:
Code the amplifier for the vehicle, using the programmable dongle (special tool required, not in the scope of
delivery; refer to Page 18).
Operating instructions programmable dongle
@thefrog I am replacing it with some tire sealant. Got hold of a cheap VW set so should be no problems getting it removed during a repair.

It takes less than 2 minutes to have it coded at your dealer - just to be sure....
Re: Plug and Play Sound system (Sub and Amp)
Will do. Going to ask if they can do the codeing with me there so I can hear the difference. Is it a big improvement, or just more bass?peter_dk25 wrote:It takes less than 2 minutes to have it coded at your dealer - just to be sure....

Who's doing the install, your VW dealer? How much are they charging?rsmagee wrote:Will do. Going to ask if they can do the codeing with me there so I can hear the difference. Is it a big improvement, or just more bass?
Re: Plug and Play Sound system (Sub and Amp)
Yeah my VW dealer, that way if any trim is damaged ect is not my issue. All in inc fitting its coming to 490. Thats the list price from the catalog. No dealer I talked to was able to offer any discount whatsoever on this item.TheFrog wrote:Who's doing the install, your VW dealer? How much are they charging?rsmagee wrote:Will do.
