Let's talk about some mods.
I'll make an extensive section with some of the tools I use and some of the mods I've done.

Today I want to share MQB stalks on Polo 6R. It was not plug and play, unfortunately, but for now it works 90%.
To do still: replace clock spring, broke mine on installation. The tape was damaged because it was turned too far. First corner, crack. I'm an idiot.
To do still: make the resistance OK for the intermittent wiper setting



Remember, my car is not a standard Polo 6R.
Steering column is 6R1419502D, because of kessy/electronic steering column lock.
The steering column of the Polo 6R will not work with the Up/Jetta stalks I used as a basis. Keep this in mind.
Also, the steering column trim is different, it is now 5N0858593 and 5N0858560B because of the kessy.



This steering column allows the installation of different stalks, the 6R0 and 7E0 stalk does not fit.
I went to experiment with stalks from Beetle, Jetta and Up!.

Finally, I took the base of the stalk of the VW Up! 1S0 959 503 AC and steering angle sender 6RA 959 654.
This will require to change the T41 connector of the 6R0/7E0 stalks to three new connectors:
- 5C0 971 975 for the left side (high beam, CC, indicator)
- 1K0 972 928 for the slipring (G85, airbag, MFS)
- 5C0 971 974 for the left side (MFA, wipers, washer)



The next step is to take stalks from Golf 7 5Q0 953 507 AC (normal cruise control, no MFA) and take the stalks from it.



Now on the right side, the intermittent wiper setting is a simple series of resistances connected to two wires.
PQ25 (polo Jetta AW0, beetle, Up)
setting 1 200 Ohm
setting 2 400 Ohm
setting 3 790 Ohm (let's make it 800)
setting 4 1600 Ohm
So it's basically doubling on every step.

For reference, PQ35 Golf 6:
setting 1 100 Ohm
setting 2 200 Ohm
setting 3 400 Ohm
setting 4 800 Ohm

Now MQB Golf 7
setting 1 310 Ohm
setting 2 920 Ohm
setting 3 1900 Ohm
setting 4 3720 Ohm

So there must be an adjustment of the resistance. I do not miss the intermittent setting, but I will do this in the future.
What I am more interested in, is the cruise control. This must work, my wife loves it. I myself do not use it often.
I will investigate Ohms laws and parallel resistances to modify accordingly.

The PQ25/35 works with 6 wires. It has a +15, a wire for plus, a wire for minus, a wire for 'on' and two wires common wire to the ECU.
The MQB has only 5 wires. It has a +15 too, the plus and minus go over a single wire (560 ohm for plus, 1500 ohm for minus) and the two common wires to ECU
So this must be adjusted.

I done the following steps:
- remove the PCB from the stalk
- remove all electrical resistors from the PCB. this are 7.
- measure a lot.
- connect a yellow wire to the 3rd resistor place (counting from left) on the top. This is the new wire for ON
- connect an electrical bridge between the 6th resistor place on the top and 7th resistor place (counting from the left). This will make a short circuit between blue and green, when plus is pressed
- connect an electrical bridge between the 7th resistor on the bottom and the fifth resistor place on the top (counting from the left). This will make a short circuit between blue and red, when minus is pressed.

Remember, the glider switch will operate two electrical circuits.

Now we have the functions of 6 wires.
White is the +15 from SB11
Black will connect to white, when the CC glider switch is in position ON and CNL. This is the first circuit operated by the slider. To ECU + T73b/45
Blue will connect to the black wire, in the wiring harness and will provide power to circuit 2, to the + and the - button. To ECU + T73b/45
Yellow is the wire for the ON signal. To T73b/47
Green is the wire for +/resume. T73b/46
Red is the wire for -/set. T73b/44.

Now it is the matter of assembling all and put it into the car.

Although I do not think about making this modification, I think it is very interesting. These convoluted jobs I like a lot. Thanks for the info.

Just looking at the last post, the video shows the steering wheel and you can see that it has a start engine button. Is this something that came as standard on the 6r/6c or is it a retrofit option? If it is retro fit how hard is it to complete?

Well, I think pretty much everything you see is original....ly not fitted on my car.
The kessy has been quite a retrofit. It's very extensive to retrofit it and I needed a lot of help from spacewalker for the immobiliser to work.

You'll need to replace:
Steering column
Steering column covers
Steering column combination swtich
Door handles
Steering lock
Keys

Add:
Kessy module
Kessy antennas (front, middle, boot, rear bumper)
Start/stop button

Program the immobiliser (you need special tools)
Program the BCM (not too difficult)

Add a huge amount of wiring to the interior wiring loom and to the door wiring looms.

Is it worth it? Oh yes it is. Is it a lot of work? Oh yes. Is it expensive? Oh yes. Would I do it again? Oh no.

Making it fit:
I chose this spot since it's not in sight and you'll not bump it quickly.
And I didn't feel like cutting a hole in my leather door panels or dashboard.
My first choice would have been the dash, lower half, next to the fuse box area, but I didn't want to risk ruining it.



Start with a stanley knife with a hole too small and make it larger as you go along.
I cutted on the back, so everytime you overshoot, you don't scratch too much...




White light

Connectiong the 1K0 connector
T4/1 to GND somewhere
T4/2 to 58d button illumination. i.e. from T28 door connector, light switch
T4/4 to white/purple wiring loom in door sill.

Now there will be a few wires in the door sill with this color, for example the LIN bus wire and the wire to the unlocking motor for fuel flap.
My car, for example, had three of these wires and didn't even have electric windows in the rear from factory
I've taken a needle and stabbed each wire and took a multimeter to check resistance to rear logo T2 connector. I took the wire with 0 Ohms.
Then I stripped some isolation off, soldered on the new wire and secured it in place.

Does it work? Oh yes!


Is it very useful? Not really

As an addition I took two 1K8827761D puffers from Scirocco to make it jump open the first 2 cm.
You'll need to grind down the plastic quite a lot, about 4mm. I took a belt sander to this.

A nice additional way to open the trunk to the two already existing ones.

1- The traditional one through the trunk switch.

2- And by coding the BCM Byte2 Bit2 ticked. Remote control active with terminal 15 ON.
This way you can open the trunk from the Key-Remote when it is in ignition switch with terminal 15 ON.

Another, slightly useless, mod. Open trunk button on the inside of the boot lid.

Then the wiring is simple.
T4/2 to GND
T4/3 to the white/violet wire in the trunk wiring loom, i.e. at the natural color connector in the boot.

I have two crates full of wiring at home, so I'll be giving it a go at making the Fakra wiring myself.
I had a great deal on a module + card reader for EUR 50.
The 4E0 connector is about 8 euros at your VW dealer.

The wiring itself is, in my case, pretty boring since I already have reverse assist "highline" camera in my car.
From VW Tiguan 2011:



Power is from +30
orange/brown is CAN infomatainment low
orange/purple is CAN infotainment high

For the antennas, I'll be using some improvised solution at first and later on I'll make a bit nicer.
T3/1 to the window/antenna
T3/2 to T3/3 for diagnostics. This way the antenna amplifier knows the aerial is connected.

If you don't have a reverse camera, it's a bit different:

I saw a few Skodas and VWs with DVBT, but no OEM:

An additional rgbvideo converter is still needed - I only saw the converter for the LOW camera (like mine).
